ShowBiz Cinemas recently finished a $3 million renovation and expansion project at the Kingwood theater. This includes a new box office, bar area, party rooms, bathroom, and of course the long awaited Super Digital SDX Experience Auditorium. When we arrived, bartenders were perfecting cocktails with a mixologist. Lined up is everything from Martini's and Mojito's to a Tequila Sunrise. A member of ShowBiz's management stood with arms outstretched in front of this enormousness new 70 foot screen projected in Hi Definition. (Their normal auditorium screens are ~42 feet). We were able to watch a preview and this photo really doesn't do the size or experience justice. The new auditorium delivers Dolby Atmos 7.1 which really gave a surround sound experience that was phenomenal. It was explained that Dolby sound engineers acquire the architecture of the theater and use computer models and mapping software to engineer the speaker positioning to deliver a product that is up to their standards in name and quality. The new SDX seats are custom designed for ShowBiz and offer more space and comfort. ShowBiz also walked us into their other theaters to show us that ALL of the seating has been replaced with brand new chairs, so the regular auditoriums are now more comfortable as well.  A corner point of view of the 300 seats available in the SDX Auditorium.A new party room was added right outside the SDX auditorium for all your special occasions. You can take a load off and test out one of the new seats for yourself right out in the lobby without having to purchase a ticket to the new auditorium. One of my biggest complaints in the past was getting inside the doors when the theater is at capacity was a pain due to the long line running sideways through the lobby. With the addition of a brand new outdoor box office that's a thing of the past. The self serve kiosks inside the lobby are still available for those who want to use them. The new box office triples the capacity of the old one and the two young ladies who were working when we asked for a photo were very pleasant! The 4 P.M. ribbon cutting ceremony and induction into the Chamber of Commerce invited out prominent members of the community including City Council Member Dave Martin. After the Cut and miscellaneous other photos:ShowBiz is also now hiring: 4951

Personally, I hate to see them bring alcohol into the theater... But then again, I am one of the few that wishes prohibition had not failed.... 4951

@KTownTexican:  At one time, they had a 30.06 sign posted.  I don't know if they still do.

@Retired_Engineer: I have never observed a 30.06 sign at Showbiz, even when it was the previous owners... I look every time I go.

@dac1842:  This was right after the incident where a guy's handgun was noticed by someone that worked there or by another patron.  They made a big stink about it at the time.If you have a CHL and are carrying, you must keep the firearm concealed.

Looks nice, but I'm also against the drinking... Such a public place and that sure likes a lot of alcohol that'll be served. But, if people can be responsible and courteous, what the hay. 4951

Now that I think about it, I'm sure they'll have some way to limit how many drinks a single person can buy. Either way, this is a nice upgrade and I definitely need to check out that new theater (or at least the chair) Emoticon 4951
