I am trying to help my mom out but I cant find a solution. My dad is getting older and drives to Stella Link every day to go to work. The drive is starting to be an hour plus and hes not a very good driver. For the safety of him and everyone else in Kingwood, I think its time for them to move closer to his job. The problem is everywhere close is a bad part of town. Good parts of town take just as long because of traffic. Does anyone know somewhere close to 288 and 610 that is a good place to live? I am not familiar with the area and realators wont talk about the demographics of the area. I guess its near NRG stadium off 90 and 610. They cant afford a super expensive home/townhome but something around $200. I know its a long shot someone from Kingwood can help me, but I figured it was worth a shot. 4951

There are some nice areas around the Braeswood/Kirby/Main street areas.  I have no idea what the prices run though. My guess is that it would be difficult to find a single family home in that area for 200K.  Probably would need to go with a Townhome or Condo. 4951

I would look in the Bellaire area or even the midtown section. You can find some decent neighborhoods there that haven't gone to hell. It's not exactly 288 and 610, but it'sobly about a 15ish drive if you just hop on the loop and take it around, or get to know back roads and take those. 4951

Not inline with your request, but is there anyway he could car or vanpool with anyone?  Just trying to think of an alternative to moving. 4951

The only problem with HAR is that there is a nice town home on there for about their price range. The house looks nice but then I look at crime and last night there was a shooting and armed robbery a few streets away. Looks are very deceiving down there. Car pooling might be a good option though. He retires in 9 years and I would hate for them to move that far away, but I don't want my dad in another bad accident again either. But I don't want them shot while they sleep either. 4951

@Nicole4647...has your dad thought about a "car pool" he would pay for gas & someone else would drive ? Or how about bus service ? If he is near retirement age maybe it would be foolish for them to move just to save travel time ? Is their home they have now "paid for " , if so it would be really foolish to move & maybe not get as nice of a home in another area ? all questions your parents should be asked before  you start moving them . 4951

I grew up there (right off Stella Link) and my parents have lived there for 50 years.  Homes are older and much smaller than most of what you find in Kingwood, so there is a price to pay for the short commute.   My parents' house has not been broken into the entire time they have lived there.  They had two vehicle break-ins, both since the 1980's.  If they decide to look in that area for a townhome specifically, it's best to stay on the inside of the loop.  4951

Their house is paid for. I asked my mom about car pooling but they are not the social type. My parents are from Germany and my dad has a really thick German accent. He was also in a few bad accidents so his speech is even worse and he has some scars on his face. Most people are not comfortable with him because of this. Is there such thing as like a car pool "club"? Some where he can meet people that drive that way and would be willing to help? He would have no problem paying. I did see the town homes right next to Stella Link but crime looked bad. It looks like they are down to the risk of a car accident or the risk of crime. Which as @buffaloglenn said, might not even be an issue. My car was vandalized here in Kingwood, 3 times, in 5 years. 4951

Why is it less dangerous for him to drive a short distance than it is for him to drive a longer distance.  Is his driving really good the first mile, but then it gets worse? If he's having trouble driving, he's having trouble driving.  4951

I just signed up for the metro car pool. I used my name since I wasn't going to tell my parents. 1 match. Woohoo right? It matched me using my dads work info to...my dad. My mom set it up last year. I ran into a lot of good luck purchasing my new home last week so I was hoping some would rub off on them too. 4951

Another solution.  Park and Ride to downtown.  Metro rail to Fannin South Park & Ride.  Buy a cheap car and park it there to commute to and from his office.  4951
