The dentist says I need a root canal.  The dentist won't do an all metal crown on the root canal'ed tooth.I am concerned about the porcelain on a PFM and don't want an all ceramic.Anyone have experience?  Have you had a metal crown on a root canal'ed tooth? 4951

I have had both & prefer the porcelain crowns , they look better & are not as sensitive as the metal ones . If I eat something cold or something too hot it really aggravates my metal crown but nothing ever bothers my porcelain crown ...Go with the porcelain  it wears just the same as the metal just looks better when you open your mouth . 4951

I wanted the PFM/PFG, but the Dentist said she doesn't like using metal.  She said metal requires more of the original tooth ground away.  So she did an all porcelain, but she charged me for the lower priced PFG.I'm OK with it.  We'll see how it holds. 4951

I had an all porcelain and it's perfectly fine. I even know exactly where it is, but I can't see it through a mirror. Definitely a better route than having a metallic smile if it's somewhere noticeable. 4951
