@Odin:

Excellent question. I'm feeling it to. We should drink heavily together and discuss the ways of the world. 4951

All I do is work now.   Seems like the corporate world has decided that severe under staffing is the norm now.  Just got word that we are shrinking our budget again, even though I work for one of those companies unaffected by the drop in crude (we are making money hand over fist... no excuse for under staffing ourselves into ineffectiveness).  So no hope for a reprieve.  Greedy bastards.So damn burned out I don't even have the energy or even time to do much about it.  Vicious cycle.I think I'm just gonna bail for the rest of the day after this last item on my list.  Let them lay me off, f it. 4951

why would you get burned out unless you don't like what you do?

@Stealth83: Gosh, maybe working almost every weekend for the last year has something to do with it???

why would you get burned out unless you don't like what you do? and if that's the case, do something else.

@Stealth83: Not true.  I totally feel @Odin.  I love my job.  I love most of the people I work with, but the mentality of continually cutting staff and expecting more out of your employees is exhausting and 100% counterproductive. It eats away at your soul as an employee, and no matter how much you like what you do, it becomes painful to even face another day in the office.  I know, I need a beach escape to recharge myself, but for that I need warmer weather!!

you to change since they aren't needing to change.

@Stealth83: Oh, but you are wrong.  We are crashing and burning in my area of the company.  Turnover is bad.  Business side customers are upset.  It's a mess.   They absolutely must change.  But current leaders are short term thinkers and don't give a damn past their upcoming bonus.   Sad to see how much damage a few people can do.
as for being passionate, OMFG!  Do you know what sheer physical exhaustion is???  Just stop.  You have no clue what you are talking about. 4951

@HotterThanYou: I don't know the executive decisions that are ongoing for staffing levels.  They may be cutting today in preparation for the future we are not made aware of until we need to be.   Hey, I would love some warmth too and when I need a vacay I put in for one. dang, warmth sounds good.

@Stealth83: You actually get to take vacation time???? My last scheduled vacation (the one week I did schedule last year out of the 4 weeks I have a year) was cancelled because a co-worker had a project on deadline and needed help completing it.  I carried two months of vacation time over into the beginning of this year.

@Odin, you sound like someone who lives in my home (not me).Hubby is an IT consultant, and he's been putting in draining hours for 11 years.  Customers pay a lot for the service and demand constant attention.  I guarantee he will look back and regret things he's missed, he already does.  But he has one of those personalities and pushes and pushes himself.  I can tell when he's getting burned out because he spends time calculating when he can retire.  When he's charged and motivated, he's looking for the next project.  I'm thinking hubby needs a beach vacay, before he loses that vacation time.    4951
