58 days is a long time! I can't say it's been easy but it's worth it. I am working on getting fit and healthy. Weighed in today and I am .4 pounds away from my goal. Went to an interval training class yesterday and the instructor told me she hoped I would feel sore today. Well, her wish came true! I'm hoping to go to Body Pump today if I can get my car washed in time!

How's everyone else doing?! Keep on fighting the good fight! You are worth it! 4951

@monyhoney: I am constantly puzzled as to why people equate soreness with a productive workout and how this is consistent with a training regimen that is progressive and sustainable long-term.  Very happy that you're meeting your goals though.

@analogkid: Yep- 100% agree. When I lift I lift to muscle exhaustion. At the time- not past muscle exhaustion to the point where I am sore the next day. That's not to say I get achey from a new or different workout ( or in my case today- pulling up carpet and scraping the floor clean) but I wouldn't label it sore, cramps ect.
Work smarter NOT Harder was always the motto I said to my clients. You can still get results, get stronger and reach your goal- don't have to shred muscle to build muscle.

On another note- I have not even come close to getting all the miles of training in on the road bike! Emoticon this weather has forced me to train inside and do lots of cross training. Not a happy camper. I know the weather will break but dang this has bee a cruddy year to train. I feel sorry for all the riders in the MS 150 this year- most of the riders I know have not been able to train. Lots of sore butts and legs in Austin this year!

My hubs works out where he shreads his muscles. His legs are so sore the next day. That's his method. I have to say he has got some amazing legs. I think his routine stems from training in his early 30's with body builders. And....sadly when he experimented with Steroids for a year. I also thought being a little sore was a good thing as  it does show that the muscles were worked. Learn something new everyday. Heading to the gym in 45 minutes. Have a great day all! 4951

@cgm10sne1: This is not unusual for those training for hypertrophy.  That said, bodybuilders catch a lot of flack, in part due to the bro-ness that is associated with it.  They do utilize some sound concepts in training for completeness and symmetry.  That is, no body part goes without some sort of training stimulus.  There's a lot of work involved in that approach.  Soreness can be an indicator, but often a poor one, as it can just as easily be a sign of overtraining or inappropriate training for the trainee's current ability to recover.  A better measure of how the "muscles were worked" is progression - the ability to increase performance over time, and/or the ability to more quickly or completely recover from similar training sessions.  I don't think that constant and persistent soreness is a good approach to training and how it applies to everyday life.  I mean, who wants to walk around sore all of the time?  Especially if you are one to compete in your chosen activity, this seems antithetic to the process of training principles in general.

@Jpgurl: Gosh, I would think this pretty good weather for training, outside of the fog, which is just dangerous for cyclists.  Pearl Izumi and others make a lot of money off of selling reasonably good apparel for this stuff.  I used to have the windstopper pants, the lobster mitt cycling gloves, and a good PI jacket that left almost no weather unworthy of training in.  Then again, I guess CycleOps makes some money for these reasons as well off of their fluid trainers. :-)

@analogkid: today- yes it's a good day- but mostly- no. I have all the cold weather gear- but at my age- going 15-17 mph into a 10-15 mph head wind with the temps in the 40-55=Aww heck NO!!! And the days that the temps are good then it's raining. I'm a wuss. Didn't used to be but I rode all the demons I had right out of me. Thankfully I'm not training for anything major!

@analogkid   I got a question. Kinda off topic lol. His quads are muscular and so pretty, but he has a hard time finding Jeans that fit. Any scoop on brands of Jeans that would accommodate his big honking legs? Emoticon I've been looking online for him....Any info would be super! Thanks in Advance!Just back from the gym. I had a good workout! I have to say (and it takes every ounce of effort to bite my tongue) I see women working out and their form is so horrible it makes me scratch my head. Maybe they never had someone show them, or just going through the motions. I cringe when I see hyper extended knees on deadlifts and knees going over toes. Women on the bicep curl machine only going down 4 inches and back up vs full motion. And phone: Facebooking and or talking. Mind boggling...but I'll Mind my own beezwax. Rant over! Sun is trying to tease us here and there @jpgurl It's come out for 15 seconds here and there!  4951

@foxymama once you eat clean for a few days and back away from carbs, those cravings will be few and far between.  Glad you put up the fight on that BK urge!  4951

@cgm10sne1: Well, I sure wish I could provide some help, but have no readily available resources.  I am familiar with his issue, from the plight of others.  Maybe some helpful hints in this thread on the Starting Strength forums:  http://startingstrength.com/resources/forum/showthread.php?t=55624
I'm not that big myself, at 6' and 210.  I don't work my quads specifically, such as front squats, though I am thinking about incorporating those more.  The regular low bar back squats promote enough growth in my glutes and hammies, that I have to get 36" waist pants.  This leaves a lot of slack at the lower back waistline and from about mid-thigh on down through the calves.  I can do a 34" in some brands, but they "define" me a bit too much to be comfortable.  I'm cheap too, so I mainly wear the JC Penney St John's Bay brand of chinos and jeans.  Working in biotech/oncology research, I can be pretty casual at my workplace.  Really sorry I can't provide much help; I guess it's kind of a good problem to have.   4951
