100daysofrealfood.com is a blog site that has alot of info and recipes to cut out processed food . We try really hard not to eat anything out of a box and only fresh in our house and it has helped with weight loss , more energy , better sleep also cut back on alcohol that was the hardest but I still got my herb...thats natural right ? 4951

@Francita:

Good article. I'm glad they differentiated between processed table salt and mineral salts. I need to go refill my pink salt grinder now. 4951

Ive been on a minimum processed food kick for years. I get the eye roll when I tell people. I eat fast food less than once a year and I rarely buy box or bag food. 4951

@Francita:
I run into the time factor with being so busy and crap food so readily available its hard to make good choices sometimes . I guess the best bet is to plan ahead and have healthy stuff available when you get home with minimal prep time . We rarely eat fastfood but when we do it's most likely whataburger and thats usually after quite a few cocktails and smoke trails ...

I think we knew fast and processed food was bad. But so many people have been raised on it. It's fast, it's convenient and cheap. The 20 Somethings are really invested in it bc it fits their life style.

When you see the huge guts on people and how common it is, I cringe. It doesn't even look natural on over weight people. A body in rebellion. It's bloat and swelling and fat.

Besides severely limiting fast food and processed things, eat lots of raw organic food. It's just the best stuff for you. Its a pain to shop, wash, and prepare but it is the fountain of youth for the body. If you ladies want a flat stomach, do THIS, and exercise.

And people need to cook at home. Old school, and simple, but use fresh Ingredients so you control what goes into it. Cook for a few days so you don't have to cook every night. It can be done if one commits to it. Teach your kids to cook or they will live at McDonalds.

Something that should have been for the occasional indulgence has turned to a dietary staple, and that's the real issue. 4951

@TheTruthHurts:

Great post! I agree. This is the real issue. Same with sodas. Over the years, waist sizes have grown in direct proportions with the number of fast food restaurants. Yet they are still building them on every corner. Kingwood is a perfect example of this. People are so excited to get these fast foods places. What about a farm to market restaurant? In a city the size of Houston how many are there? 2-3? Any? I don't know. They are popping up every where in Colorado. Sure they cost more but you save on weight related health issues. 4951

My Dd tells me that most of her twenty something friends don't know how to cook. If they aren't eating out, they are reheating processed frozen or pre-prepared food. 4951

@MarT:  When she was in college and in a 4 bedroom apartment, my daughter was the only one that could cook.  She had a lot of different apartment mates and none of them cooked.  My daughter could not eat fast food and junk like the others, so she had to learn to cook.I was also the designated cook when I was in college.  La Tech closed its cafeteria on the weekends because most students went home on weekends.  Those of us that stayed had to fend for ourselves.  A group of 6-8 of us would chip in a couple of bucks each and I would make a big pot of spaghetti, chili, or some one-dish casseroles.  It might not have been real healthy but it was cheap and filling.
