Keep in mind that when you compare the US to other countries, we educate ALL children. I've heard countless times how kids in China or India score way higher than our kids. Well, they don't have free public education; also, they start putting kids on tracks before they are 10 years old. For example, imagine if your child had a C in Math in 2nd grade. They are then told they are not good enough and can't continue with the regular class; instead, they are put into a manual trades class and will no longer take any standardized tests. They are then deprived of the opportunity to ever get better academically. That's the reality of other country's education systems. And special education? It's non-existent outside of the US, Canada, and Western Europe.
@AstroKing: EXACTLY!!!! we are NOT behind other countries like they lead us to believe. They only test their best of their best. We also are fine on funding if our actual tax dollars reached the kids and teachers and no we DO NOT need more time at a desk and DO need more play, art, music,gym,.sports. and creative type classes. We need to get our kids up and moving, the brain does not work well staring at paper 6 hours a day!If I wanted my kids educated like they do in socialist countries, I would move there. I dont want a robot sheeple for a kid, no thank you!
