Every once in a while I get this overwhelming feeling of the need to run away. Like to a city I've never been to and just stay there. Today is one of those days, actually the last few weeks have been like this. I've never done it. I've fought the urge on and off for a decade. If it wasn't for my kids i probably would have done it. Surely I'm not the only one. 4951

@DiverDude:

I agree. I love change and new opportunities. I've been in a holding pattern lately, maybe that's what's sparking this mood. 4951

@Francita....no you are not alone  ! Lot's of people (men & women) get the urge to run , they always think it will improve their lives & everything will be wonderful. I know you have heard the old saying ,"Grass is greener on the other side ". Well it's not ! Talk to your husband & tell him how you feel , get a sitter for your kids & take off for a week without them . Get to know your husband all over again . Sometimes when life gets to be too much for us we get the urge to run , it's the animal instinct  built into all of us. You didn't say how old your kids were ?  Children need both parents , no one will take care of them like you do . If you just need some time away come to my home . The pool isn't open because we have a lot of snow , but  you can come & enjoy the change & maybe a week or a few days is all you need to  re-adjust your feelings. Time to think , then  maybe you can reach a good decision  & go back home & feel better about what you have decided to do . I have always said our home is always open to friends far & wide , just PM me & I will give you my phone # & address & you will have a place to come & think, 4951

@Francita: I ran away once when I was 19 and I ended up in the hood in East Palo Alto, CA and stayed there for six years with very little contact with all my family. It was the biggest mistake of my life

@WJo:

Lol. Wjo. I know you're trying to be helpful which is very appreciated. I'm not married and my kids are 30 and 24. Its my internal mechanism. I traveled a lot as a kid since my dad was military. We moved every few years. I just get a fever to roam. It is especially strong right now. My youngest son is the only one I help support as he works his way through school. But i do have a very close relationship with both of them.

@Francita...then take off & fly ! I waited till my kids were grown & both had homes of their own & I flew to South Carolina , had a blast . Then  I went to  Virginia Beach , awesome time there ,  I did not stop wandering for about 2 years & then I came back home . But I would not trade my time  just being me & free for anything. I was also a Navy brat & we moved every 18 months , then my 1st husband was navy & I continued to move around  for the next 13 years . So the wanderlust does get into your blood , trust me I know (LOL). So spread your wings & fly , you deserve to be YOU & to do what you want to do . 4951

@CBP210:
Oh my gosh! I did the same thing to Los Angeles when i was 19. It ended up good because i found my way to Montana and met my husband there. Kind of touch and go in California though.

My hubby has this wanderlust, his family moved a lot, and then he was in the usaf for 20 years, so he gets antsy. Me, I'm more inclined to want a vacation, rather than start all over somewhere new. 4951

@Francita: I have wanderlust. I've disappeared like that three times - once for 3 months, once for 1 year, and once for 2 years. All three were great experiences, and I've definitely been thinking about doing it again. Maybe it's the weather lol.
