When it comes to these type of issues either involving the weapons or the ammunition, controversy always follows even within law enforcement which is apparently divided on such subjects  - www.policemag.com/ch annel/weapons/news/2 013/01/31/law-enforc ement-groups-su 4951

I can't believe this guy is getting away with stripping the people of their rights for his own agenda. In previous years there would have been an impeachment years ago. Sad this country has become so spineless and just goes along with what he wants to so. 4951

There are untold millions of the M855 bullets in civilian hands as we speak, and that is not changing anytime soon.In the history of the US there are ZERO cases of a LEO being shot with a M855, which is no armor piercing. M855 with not penetrate steel armor plate body armor. It will penetrate Kevlar vests with ease, but then so will any standard .223/5.56mm AR ball ammo.... because of the velocity alone.This proposed ban is a crock of &$@# 4951

That article is about a month old.  No ammo has yet been banned (but it likely will be soon).   The ammo that the BATFE is targeting is 5.56mm (AR15) M855 ammo and/or SS109 projectiles.  These projectiles contain a small hardened steel "penetrator".  This is NOT armor-piercing ammo.  Most 5.56mm ammo will defeat light-medium body armor.  The penetrator was added to insure penetration through body armor and many other materials that the enemy may hide behind.  The president and the BATFE are using the phrase "not for sport purposes" as an excuse to ban this ammo.  The fear is that if they succeed, they will use the same tactic to ban other cartridges THEY deem to have no sporting purpose. 4951

@friday1:

This is the case of dealers taking advantage of a crisis. I heard cheaper than dirt is getting hell for this.

 Banning anything is a sure way to make a profit. ...just saying. Invest heavily, then tell everyone that they can't have it. The price goes up and people are willing to pay.  ...huge profit made.   Where is this ammo made?  ???? 4951
