At what age did your preschoolers give up their afternoon nap? My daughter puts up a big fight every afternoon.

Both my boys were two when they said goodbye to the daily naps, although they would still fall asleep in the car sometimes.  It helped a bunch for being ready for bed at night. 4951

My kids stopped napping regularly around age 3.5. After that we transitioned to "quiet time", stay in your room and play quietly. Occasionally they'd fall asleep. 4951

When I was teaching, my kids napped until they were at least 4. If by 4 they were consistently not napping, they could have quiet time. But they at least had to lay down and rest for a while. Most of the time they'd fall asleep for a bit. But this was a school setting...so they were pretty tired mentally and physically by nap time. I even had 5 year olds that would occasionally want to lay down and rest.

Eventually toddlers want to fight a nap because they don't want to miss any of the fun you might be having without them. If she falls asleep after fighting her nap...she clearly still needs a nap! 4951

If your child is not difficult to deal with at night from not taking a nap, it's ok to give it up. I found it personally better to do a nap (usually involved a tantrum before it) and have a happy child at night Emoticon I found our child was exhausted by 6:30 and falling asleep. I knew naps were still needed 4951
