They gave it to me once years ago for a medical procedure, I would have let them cut off my arm.  Dd had it once and loved it, because it let her relax and her brain to shut down, she has one of those brains that don't ever stop spinning.  4951

@MarT:

Thanks, the hospital gave it to me a few days ago. So far, I am a walking zombie. My doctor is considering putting me on it for a few months. 4951

I couldn't take it regularly, I wouldn't be able to function.  But even when I take OTC sleeping pill I'm sluggish the next day.  Is there something less potent they can give you?  4951

@OkiedokieI was actually given a prescription for Valium (1mg dosage) by my Cardiologist several years back for (inherited) Tachycardia... I have very low blood pressure naturally, and was not able to take a Beta Blocker because of that, so when my heart rate decides to get jiggy, I can simply take a half (to a whole if need be) of Valium, and it helps to bring my heart rate back down....   My prescription is for 10 Valium at a time, and I seriously have 9 left.... From several years ago...I kid you not......I prefer to stick with the all natual sticky-icky, personally.........But, I do have them on hand if need be........Anywho, if you're feeling "wiped out / zombie like," I would simply suggest dividing the Valium into half, or even fourths...  You may simply not need the full prescribed dosage......No biggie, dude...

@Okiedokie:  Tell your doctor about how you reacted to it.  Maybe he can use a smaller dosage or another drug that is not as strong.  Doctors need to know how you reacted.  Let him know that being a zombie for a few months is not acceptable.

I take 10 miligrams to go to sleep at night on the nights I have to work the next day.  I have one of those brains that never shut down and I used to take 5 benedryl and hope to be asleep by midnight and I get up at 5. It seems to be working for me. I take one between 8:30 and 9 when I put my DD to bed and I'm usually asleep by about 10-10:30 the latest.  I don't take it during the day so I can't tell you if it would make me zombie like but I do know when I am ready to go to sleep. I have tried everything and so far this is the first thing that as been working for me.  I don't take it on Friday and Saturday or if I have an extra day off but I do take it on the nights I have to work.  I wake up feeling pretty refreshed.   I know I do have weird dreams but I can't remember them. 4951

@Annie:

Ativan, cousin to Valium, makes me climb the walls, cannot settle down or rest. It's the exact opposite reaction than its intended use.

I put it on my allergy list because if I'm ever taken to the hospital unconscious and become agitated, I don't want that drug, or is relatives, given to me. 4951

I also have trouble closing down my mind at night.  I lie there and it's like I am watching a TV in which someone is changing the channel every 5 seconds or so.  I also had anxiety issues real bad back then.  My doctor tried sleeping pills but they either did nothing or I would sleep but be very groggy all  the next day.  He put me on Klonopin and that helped my anxiety and my sleep.  Now that I'm retired, I do not have as much anxiety.  I have gradually reduced the amount of Klonopin I take each day, but I still take it at bedtime.  I still periodically have insomnia, but not nearly as bad as I used to. 4951

@Retired_Engineer: That's how I am.  I try to think about a pretty tree up on a grassy hill then I think the leaves are going to fall and I'm gonna have to clean them up then I'm going to have to mow the lawn then the tree is going to fall on the house and forget sheep, I start counting them and one always gets away...lolMy doctor gave me something with a T once before and I only ever took one of those and woke up the next morning not knowing what planet I was on.  I actually had to call in sick to work because I couldn't function properly.  Never took another one of those.  I've been using the diazepam for the last couple months and I will keep it up for now.  I could have taken stock in Nyquil and Benedryl I was using it so much before and still not getting enough sleep.

@dotti573:  Diazepam and Klonopin are in the same family.  I am not groggy when I wake with the klonopin.I tried Ambien (sleeping pill) for a brief period but I did sleep-walking and more on it!  My wife uses Benedryl when she can't sleep, but she snores heavily when she uses it!

@Retired_Engineer: I take blood pressure meds also so it has been hard finding something that doesn't get that all out of whack. And, even if I snored like a chain saw my DH would know better than to complain...lol.  I recorded him snoring once and he thought it sounded like a helicopter or an extremely loud darth vador so he can't complain about me..lol
