I did not fall into the "at risk" category at my Well Woman exam b/c I am too young and have no family history that I know of(there might be, women just die young on my mom's side so not sure).  I had a random CT scan and they found a lump.Do they really hurt? The drs also decided to order an ultrasound at the same time...what is that like?  Thank you in advance! 4951

Hurt no, uncomfortable yes. An ultrasound is just them running the wand over your breast. Nothing to it. 4951

It's a little uncomfortable, but don't let the stories scare you. I had a lump at a young age, which was eventually removed, and benign. 4951

@BooBear: Yeah, I have had an ultrasound or two-some poked around more than others Emoticon  My mom thought there was only 1 facility that had the tech to do a breast ultrasound b/c of all the tissue.  I am guessing she was wrong.  Emoticon

It is odd that they are ordering a mammogram AFTER a ct scan since the ct is better at seeing than a mammogram. I guess Dr.s do weird things sometimes, especially if your insurance will pay for it.

Scheduling an ultrasound at the same time as a mammogram has become standard practice since most women have something in their breasts. It's way more convenient. 4951

I had fibroid cyst that they found when I was 35 and removed. Benign. Painless. Mams don't hurt either!

Some women are more sensitive. For me- not painful at all- neither is the ultrasound- the ultrasound is like the ultrasound when you're preggers EXCEPT you don't have to fill your bladder.
I was diagnosed with fibro cystic breast disease in my 30's. It's hormonal and benign but those dense little masses can hide cancer so Mammos and the occasional ultrasound are the norm for me.
Good luck and let us know!!! 4951

Memorial Herman told me they will add 3d mammograms for $50 extra which shows more but most insurance won't cover. This was the facility down off 59, north of Will Clayton. I think it's in conjunction with MD Anderson. 4951

@Okiedokie: I know nothing on this subject. But I'm on mobile and it doesn't show who the OP is.

Based on the title, before I opened it, I wasn't sure if it was going to be a serious thread, or a cartoon from @FoFa.

Carry on. 4951

I'm in my 60's so have had my fair share of mammograms. From what I've been told, the larger you are the more discomfort you'll experience. That being said, I just had one recently here in Kerrville and it was the least painful one I've ever had. It was a new-fangled machine that was tested in Houston, actually. It was a breeze! Good luck and just hold your breath when they tell you to. Like you could do anything else! Girls know what I'm talking about. 4951

I consider the mammogram uncomfortable but a necessary evil. Save yourself some trouble and don't wear deodorant on that day. Once the "squeeze" starts, you are not too many seconds from being finished.

I treat myself to a new blouse at Dillard's en route home. Emoticon 4951

The first year I was married, my husband insisted on going with me. He was sure I would be too uncomfortable to drive home safely. He was floored that I wasn't malformed and sobbing upon exit. I still let him drive me since he did come along but I blew my chances of getting him to cook dinner and load the dishwasher by not sulking around the house that afternoon. 4951
