Several times here and elsewhere people have admired what a strong and decisive leader President Putin of Russia appears to be. Of course it's quite easy to seem that way when there's little opposition to your philosophy or policies. Because to do so might cost you your very life.   http://www.washingtonpost.com/world/russian-opposition-leaders-see-kremlin-links-to-nemtsov-murderrussian-opposition-leaders-see-kremlin-links-to-nemtsov-murder/2015/02/28/1626f9b2-bed6-11e4-9dfb-03366e719af8_story.html?hpid=z1http://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/a-dark-day-in-russia/2015/02/27/a2258bf2-bece-11e4-8668-4e7ba8439ca6_story.html?hpid=z3So the next time you hear someone waxing all a glow over how manly and bold some foreign dictator is compared to our "weakling" just remember his people will agree. They have to - or else.   4951

Really? That is your best argument to bolster Obama? At best, its a strawman argument unless you can show someone wishing Obama was Putin. 4951

Seems that all roads go through Russia now, after the United States began abandoning Egypt all because the new government refuses to submit to the wishes of the White House and the further empowerment of extremists in Egypt. Egyptian-Russian relations witnessed major developments as a delegation of Egyptians visited Russia to invite President Vladimir Putin to join Egypt as a partner and strategic ally.Source Canada free pressA new poll finds that while President Barack Obama’s favorability numbers are higher among Americans than Russian President Vladimir Putin’s, Americans are more likely to view Putin as a strong leader.Source Hoffington postSo who’s more powerful: the omnipotent head of a feisty former superpower or the handcuffed head of the most dominant country in the world? For the second year running, our votes went with the Russian president as the world’s most powerful person, followed by U.S. President Barack Obama and Chinese leader Xi Jinping.Source Forbes 4951

@rundmv: This is not to bolster Obama.  However it does show those that are too young to remember the cold war just how different our political systems are. In the bad old days dissent in the Soviet Union simply wasn't tolerated.  Putin is hell bent on bringing his people back to those times. As to your second point about someone wishing Obama was Putin -http://www.mediaite.com/online/rev-franklin-graham-obama-should-be-more-like-putin-on-gay-rights/http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2014/09/ted-cruz-kitty-cat-obama-should-be-more-like-russian-bear-putin/http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/03/14/putin-obama-poll_n_4964753.html

I can't imagine anyone sane wishing O was Putin. But there can be no doubt that the majority of Americans wished O had a grasp on how his lack of foreign leadership is hurting our country.  And all of our allies.  I can't figure out if O is really incompetent, or if he is doing nothing on purpose.  Either way, he isn't looking like a leader.

@Fallon: I understand your opinion, and you may be right.  Getting back to Putin even if his people wished he would have stayed out of Ukraine and concentrated more on the Russian collapsing economy most dare not say so.  Further since the Russian government controls the media, I don't think there will be any legitimate polls coming out soon to verify whether his people think him a great leader or not.

^^^Playing devils advocate there might not be a "hard hitting" piece on Obama because there may not be anything to hit hard on that will satisfy most conservatives point of view.  Secondly, I think many Americans have war fatigue.  Therefore the idea of another military confrontation with another country is not going down well right now.  There does seem to be a growing appetite to confront ISIS more directly but they are a terrorist organization and not a nation. In regards to Putin aggressions there is no doubt that there are constant top secret intelligence meetings going on as to how to respond to him.  No president makes decisions in a vacuum.  Putin too realizes the high stakes game he is playing.  He knows that if he attacks a NATO country for example by treaty all the member nations come in and we're off to WW III.I would not doubt that there are high level communications between our two nations detailing just how far each is willing to be pushed.  Hopefully cooler and sane heads prevail and we won't have another situation like the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1963.  4951

^^^Hey great discussion.  In reference to the IRS I haven't seen a smoking gun that links the President thus far.  If there was one I believe all the major networks would be all over it.  The American media is all about money and ratings.  They didn't take it easy on Clinton when the Lewinsky scandal came to light. As for the image of American power I think the entire globe understands that we have the capability of wiping any country off the face of the Earth, many times over I might add.  I personally don't think Obama is weak.  I do see him as being slower to react than some past presidents.  Why I don't know for sure.  But it could be when it comes to sacrificing someone's life the prospect weighs on him.  Yeah he can seen in the Marines so to speak but he knows several of them will not be returning home.  This reality might have made him "gun shy".  If that's the case it could be a good thing or bad depending upon perspective. 4951

@rocket: Obviously you are not alone in thinking he isn't weak and many around the globe seem to trust him to do the right thing when it comes to foreign affairs.http://globalpublicsquare.blogs.cnn.com/2014/07/16/how-the-world-sees-obama/ 4951

@rocket: you said several times "here." And none of your left wing pieces you cited supports your thesis that people prefer Putin's style to Obama's.

You can't look at what Putin has done and come up with him being incompetent.  He is ruthless, he is aggressive and imo, dangerous.  But not incompetent.  He is KGB, and nothing shows that more than him having his most outspoken opponent killed yesterday in Moscow.  And no the press will say that because they would be next to be taken out.  Sadly Putin knows O is weak, and so he became the aggressor, knowing without the US to step in, he was free to go into the Ukraine.  I don't get why people have issues with America being a superpower.  We are.  Well we use to be.  O is doing all he can to stop this.  And he is being successful in this.  And as a result the world is going to hades in a hand basket.A lot of people believe we should let other people handle their own problems.  Again, I don't get this either.  I would never walk away from a woman screaming for help if a man were trying to rape her.  Yet the people that believe we should never help other counties are saying this is what we should all do.   The rapist will just continue to rape if he isn't stopped.  As Putin will continue to make Russia relevant until he is stopped.  Having a strong leader would have prevented all of this.  O doesn't seem to be able to see this, or learn from his past mistakes.  And our press isn't much better than what we find in Russia.  When do ever see a hard hitting piece on O on NBC, ABC, CBS, MSNBC, CNN, MSNBC?

@Fallon: correctly. Being an bad person and competency are not mutually exclusive.

There are competent crooks and there are incompetent crooks. Even if robbing a bank is a dishonest endeavour, it requires some level of competency to pull it off.

Conversely, feeding the homeless is a noble effort. But one can be incompetent in doing so and feed the homeless tainted, moldy or bad food.

The OP points to the issue.  Putin is a strong leader who uses force to get his way.  That's why nations like America need strong armed forces and strong leaders.A weak man can't face down a guy like Putin. 4951
