My mattress is 8 years old. Manufactures recommended changing them every 8 years. But I am still happy with mine. How often do you change yours?

Less than 4 but for the price, it should last 16 more years! 4951

Not every 8 years. Clever marketing but that's total BS, especially if you have and use a mattress pad. The stuff they claim gets in a mattress would have to go through sheets and a thick pad. That's just a way to convince people to buy much more frequently than they should. Many people keep mattress 15-20 years or more depending on the original quality and how we you take care of it.

Get a new one only if you want one, NOT because of what someone in the business of selling mattresses tells you. If it is sagging or if you want a different model or style, or is it is stained and just worn out, then consider a purchase.

Let your own comfort be the judge. 4951

I personally miss the mattresses that you flipped over. This rotation every 3 months is a pita and a king is heavy and difficult to manage with one person. I have asked DH to do this and it just never happens. I don't harp and nag. He can have his side, body impression and all. My side is like new. I definitely roll into his crator when spooning. We have a firm pillow top sterns and foster that is under 4 years old and it was expensive. We won't be dropping any bucks on a new one for a long time. 4951

Stay away from a memory foam mattress. Get a quality pillow top. I paid $1500 and talk about creators. Its only a year old too. 4951

This one is over 12 years old. The previous one was about 25.

We buy quality and I always keep a good mattress pad on it. I rotate it about every 4 months and flip it once a year, probably not often enough.

I have a hard time believing that people actually have fallen for the advertisement gimmick of 'every 8'. Why throw away a perfectly good mattress? If you are worried about dust or dust mite accumulation, vacuum the damn thing! Where does this glut of old mattresses go? Landfill? Donated? Why are there mattress stores almost on every block...must be a huge profit in mattresses. 4951

@foxymama: They've gotten a lot better with the cooling gel inside. Our memory foam, Icomfort brand is between 3-4 yrs old & it is like sleeping on a cloud. I love it. 4951

Mine is @10 years old. I love that mattress. Its nice and firm with enough cushion to make it cozy without sinking into it. I do not like pillow tops, too soft and they hurt my back. I rotate it a few times a year. When it wears out I don't know what I'll do. I'm convinced I'll never find another mattress this comfortable. I bought 2 in the few previous years, each one sucked and my back hurt most mornings until I got moving to loosen it up.

On a separate note, I'm in the market for a full size bed for my guest bedroom. 4951

@foxymomma...my last mattress I had for 18 months & gave it to my grandson because it was no longer comfortable to me, he loves it , but he's 22 & does not have any back problems. My new mattress is 2 years old & so far it's okay . I say as long as you are comfortable & you keep a mattress cover on it & vacuum it every week to get any dead skin cells off of it you are okay . I also steam clean my mattress once every 3 months . It freshens it & I feel better about sleeping on it for years (LOL). 4951

Latex, not hot like memory foam, isn't bouncy, lasts forever. If you have a latex allergy, you can get the natural latex that is hypo-allergenic (cost a little bit more). If you buy one online, you can customize it to your liking, even each side. However I have a good pillow top that is 14 years old and still going strong, so latex has to wait until this one is shot. But everyone I know with a latex, just loves them. Can't be said for the air or memory foam ones. 4951

I have the iComfort & absolutely love it. I've never felt hot on it, but my room is always really warm because it's upstairs. The only issue I had was getting used to rolling over. Because it sucks you down into a nest, when I go to roll over it can be a process. But it has helped me to not move around so much, which is a good thing! 4951
