I want to change out my front door to a solid wood door with a peep hole. Can I do this without getting approval? These fugly beveled glass doors that every single house adorns are the pits and unsafe to me. I don't think I have seen any solid doors on any homes. So, can I change ours without hoa drama.??? Tia! 4951

@cgm10sne1: You can select your village on the Kingwood HOA page, and then "address the board"...maybe they can direct you accurately and swiftly?
I agree with you, though. Safety >>> 90's doors.  4951

Yeah, I just looked up some restrictions for one neighborhood and doors aren't listed at all....the COLOR of the door seems like it would be more of an issue than the style itself. Good luck, girl! 4951

you could always have a good solid door painted with 'glass panels' as trompe l'oeil. some painters can paint a virtual reality that belies the actuality. here are some examples: 4951

If you stay within the same quality and a color scheme that blends well with the front of your house, I doubt anyone would make a stink. A lot people think they like the wood/glass combination then decide later they don't, especially for safety and security, and go with similar solid wood. 4951

I just need a single solid wood or steel door prefer black with a peep hole. No glass unless it higher up. I also will have to find someone to install it. I am not going to spend over 500 on the door. 2k....no way! Any referrals for installers. I want a good fit with no air coming in or out through cracks. What a waste of energy! 4951

Good luck with that, a quality front door is not cheap and you don't want crap - if only for eventual resale.  If you live in an HOA, follow the HOA procedure for making changes to your exterior, that is the sure way to avoid drama. 4951

When in doubt, go ahead and ask the HOA for an approval.  It would be unfortunate to find out after spending the time and money that it's not allowed, just to have to pay again to have it removed. 4951

@cgm10sne1... we had new French doors installed on our house & it was $3,200.00 installed , Go to Lowes or Home Depot & check out their doors they have a nice assortment to choose from , but it will cost you more than $500. for a quality door. Ours was custom made  ( had to be ) because of the size of the opening  on our house. 4951

I've been looking on Lowe's website. They have a better selection to me than H'dpt. I can assure you that anything is better security wise than the beveled glass door that people can look into the house and easily break. I will get a quality door. Thanks for the input all of you! 4951

@cgm10sne1Yo sweet chica.........Make sure you have your hubbs go with you to Lowe's before he bounces, so you all can get his 10% Military / Veteran's discount.........We actually had Lowe's replace one of our sliding glass patio doors, as well as install the Oak Laminate flooring (after the Great Water Heater Flood)........And both times, both crews just did an outstanding job....Thumbs Way Up for our experience with Lowe's.... 4951
