if you had a 15 year old child that broke their arm, and the doctor did not give them any pain medication besides ibuprofen. If you had a percocet in your home and it was your prescription would you give half of the pill to your child to get them out of pain?

I have not done it yet, I wanted to get others opinion before I made a decision. Please don't make comments that I'm a bad mother. I'm not a bad mom I'm not a great mom either I think I'm a good mom and I just want to get my child out of pain. But I also want to do the right thing. Please give me your opinions on what you would do. 4951

Maybe take her to one of the emergency clinics?  They might be able to help. 4951

15 yo, I'm assuming adult sized....I'd do it. If they are a petit small 100lbs, no. 4951

I'd call the pharmacist first and get the indications for half a dose and age/amount scale. First, I might try a prescription strength dose (800mg) of the Motrin, then if that didn't work, ask the pharmacist if the two could be given together. I would not just self prescribe to a 15-year old but I would definitely do what is necessary to make my child comfortable, within safe limits of course.

No judgment...I don't blame you for wanting to help your child with pain. I'm not one of those people afraid of pain meds, but I would want to do it and stay within safe dosing limits. One or two doses will not harm or cause addiction issues, but I would still reach out to the pharmacist for advice. 4951

Maybe try giving them a regular ibuprofen but tell them it's the stronger. Placebo effect is pretty effective. 4951

Let me answer your question with at question. Are you willing to go to jail for a felony if your son/daughter tells anyone that mom gave him a Percocet? 4951

@BooBear:

She broke it yesterday while cheer leading. She is 105 pounds - thin but muscles. She is very in shape.

Are you much bigger than her? Meds are prescribed by weight. 4951

I was just wondering when the felony freaks were going to chime in with their nonsense. 4951
