Clearwater Beach- the Northern coasts are nice as is all the beaches on the west coast barrier islands. But Clearwater Beach is my favorite because the beach there is very wide and long. There are many restaurants along the beach. Frenches is my fav go to while I'm on the beach- I can walk up and be seated and not have to pack all my gear up. Also the "downtown" area has a ton of good food right across from the public beach. There's a Greek place that serves the best pizza. I've heard there is a big Boardwalk that meanders around and there's fun things to do at the pier at sunset. All of this is walking or bike riding distance from the hotels and condos!! I'm hoping to make a trip there this fall 4951

Depends on what you want. Lots of activity and restaurants etc. or more laid back. Our favorite place is Navarre Beach. Very low key and less crowded. About 30 min West of Destin. Destin or Panama City for lots of activity. Pensacola also. We like Sanibel Island but it's real crowded Miami area is beautiful and more chance of better weather. But crowds and prices are big issues. Don't really care for anything on the East Coast side. 4951

So much yes!!!! We stay at the beachcomber on st pete beach every summer. It's such a great little hotel right on the beach and there's a open air bar right by the beach too! Some rooms have a kitchen and your close to everything. Prices are great too! 4951

@foxymama: the water is so clear- and a beautiful azure color. The sand is bright white and sugar soft. The shelling is fabulous- ESP if you walk to the North part of the island. Lots of Sand Dollars- BUT please do not go out to the sand bar to dig them up- they are living creatures that are key component to the environment. I've seen people dig them up and bring them onshore and bleach them. I have jars and jars of shells and sand dollars( the ones that wash ashore are dead). My favorite she'll is the shark eyes. You can also find real sharks teeth. There are horseshoe crabs, tons of Dolphins, schools of small sting rays- they run up and down the shore at dawn catching breakfast. There's a "pirate" ship at the marina that provides cruises- kids love that. Also parasailing and boat rentals.
