Good Morning,First time posting and for a good cause... I have lived in Kingwood for over fifteen years and I have witnessed over and over again how our residents come together when  someone is in need... I have created an indiegogo account to try to organize a fundraiser for my friend... here's a little about her story...Elena, my life-long friend, started her career as an elementary school teacher, job that she enjoyed very much. Her passion was teaching at an inner-city school to underprivileged children. She taught for many years when complications with her undiagnosed diabetes took her sight. This as you can imagine, caused a great change on her and her husband's life... Because of her health issues and lost of sight, Elena could not have a regular job and that made it so much difficult to keep up with their regular living bills. When her husband lost his job, they began struggling to keep up with all the basic needs expenses, but barely making it... With medical expenses, it made it very difficult to continue to pay their bills, always with the thought "We will catch-up a little later". Now their home is about to be auctioned if they cannot come up with $10,000 to pay for their missed home payments and additional bank foreclosure expenses. If you can help, any amount matters...$5, $10, anything! There are two ways to help: 1. Donate - even small donations raise our popularity and give us more visibility on the site. 2. Post to Facebook - in the end, the more people hear about us, the more likely we are to meet our target. Indiegogo Life has no fees, so anything we raise goes directly to our goal. Thank you! To donate and to read about her story please go to:https://life.indiegogo.com/fundraisers/save-my-blind-friend-s-home-from-foreclosure/x/9940590

Very nice of you but what is going to prevent them from getting right back into the same situation? Does she not get disability/Medicaid? Maybe downsizing is the best thing for them. They could talk to bank about maybe doing a short sale so they can get out of mortgage without it being auctioned. 4951

And how can this be proven that this is not a scam?

Most of their money had to go towards medical bills, which made them fall behind and was almost impossible to catch-up after that. They are now getting help from Medicare/Medicaid and other sources. They just need help with this portion... 4951

@happycoqui: While I applaud your efforts in helping your friends, they need to call the mortgage company and look into relief programs.  They are out there for homeowners who fall behind due to medical problems.  And for the nosy people on here, no I do not know this from experience Emoticon

It would have been nice getting help paying off a $40,000 adoption. 4951

I understand the reasons why you may think that... I included their address in case anyone wanted to verify the situation. I have know her for a really long time, so I'm sure that she would be willing to meet with any group so she can relate her story personally. 4951

@happycoqui: There are agencies out there other than just the bank.

@happycoqui: That's when you are in a collections situation.  If you can't pay your bills, the party cannot step in and take you home-As Long as You are Paying the Mortgage.
