My wife and I raided the Red Box and had a movie day yesterday with one more movie today.  Sadly, we did not chose wisely.The DropOne of James Gandolfini's last movies.  Long, drawn out, and boring. Gandolfini plays an ex-owner of a bar that gets taken over by gangsters.  It's difficult to see him playing a small-time loser after The Sopranos.The HomesmanWith Tommy Lee Jones and Hillary Swank.  A western about women going crazy in the Nebraska Territory.  I'm still trying to figure out the point of this long, sad, movie!  The jumping back and forth in time detracts from the movie.Gone GirlPicked out by my wife because she read the book.  Very long, very boring movie (2hr 29min).  Two duplicitous people that are not likeable (possibly sociopathic) and the movie seems to not have any point to it except that they belong to each other.Django Unchained  (watched on NetFlix)Another long drawn out movie (2hr 45min).  Some bursts of humor and action with plenty of blood/gore, but overall just mediocre.  Jamie Foxx's acting is OK, but he has "dead" eyes, meaning that they are not very expressive.I'm just glad that we didn't pay box-office prices to see these movies! 4951

look on the bright side...it cost you what 4 bucks to find this out instead of 65 or 70 bucks...that gives you something to smile about 4951

Gone Girl was a little disappointing to us as well. But since we had not read the book, the plot twists kept our interest throughout.

We watched Lucy last night. It wasn't exactly what I expected, but it was interesting. There were a few inconsistencies and an unlikely ending, but overall an enjoyable movie. 4951

@Mahm:  We watched Lucy a few weeks ago.  It's story line is totally preposterous but it's still an entertaining movie.   Emoticon

@Retired_engineer I agree with your review of The Drop. I actually liked Gone GIrl except for the lengthI love Tarantino movies. Django Unchained is no exceptionI haven't seen the Homesman, but Westerns are not my favorite. We don't seem to have the same taste in movies! By the looks of it, your are a tough critic.  4951

@herron1345: Wild.  I just watched it last week.   Wanted to show my kid what a real epic movie is like.

@notfromhere:  I'm generally not a fan of Hollywood, so a movie has to be pretty good for me to like it.  It either has to have some good life lessons/experiences (like in The Judge) or simply be good entertainment (and an appropriate length) for me to like a movie.Vive la difference!

Gone Girl
Picked out by my wife because she read the book.  Very long, very boring movie (2hr 29min).  Two duplicitous people that are not likeable (possibly sociopathic) and the movie seems to not have any point to it except that they belong to each other.

@Retired_Engineer:

Your review of this movie cracked me up. If only all movie reviews were so blunt it would save people a lot of money. I'll wait for it on the lifetime channel.

I haven't seen any of these movies. 4951

@Retired_Engineer: really? you're not even gonna comment on Emilys perfect set of boobs?
@mm4731: I did not know Katy Perry starred in that movie. 4951

@mm4731: They pointed up too high.  And, if you liked them, they really were not shown for very long.
