@foxymama: Is she going to sit in your lap during the plane ride? I used to walk my daughter around the terminals until the boarding commences

@CBP210: She has her own seat that she has to sit in during take off and landing but during flight, who knows what she will want to do.  I am bringing books, ipad with movies and games, and a drawing thing.

@GoldenGirl: I just ordered a couple of new items on Amazon this week  for the trip.  That was my plan to hide them till she flipped out.
Will i be able to bring benedryl?  Its a liquid. 4951

Make sure they sleep really well before getting on the plane. Just before boarding give them some coke with a couple of extra tablespoons of sugar in it. A full bar of Hersheys chocolate will also help.  4951

@foxymama:

They can test it at security. Or bring it in 1 oz bottles. Or do they make dissolving strips?

Even if she doesn't have a cold, Benadryl helps with the pressure in the ears. Can she chew gum? If not, maybe bring some gummy bears to keep the jaw moving until the pressure stabilizes.

That's a great idea about new toys for the flight. I remember one time I took DD with a small metal case filled with magnetic paper dolls. It kept her entertained the entire flight.

Good luck Mama. 4951

I agree about the benedryl- I used to give it to my son all the time flying- he had PE tubes in his ears and allergies. He slept like a baby when flying!! I used to use it on my dd too- she didn't have issues but it mellowed her out 4951

I flew to houston from Cleveland quite a few times with my 3 year old (now 6) I filled up a book bag with his favorite things and loaded up his ipod with his favorite movies. Security is very helpful when you have a little one in tow too which helped my anxiety lol. 4951

Benadryl is not always your friend. It's called the "catalyst effect" and has the oppostie effect - aka. makes them hyper. I know from experience! So, if it works for her ordinarily, than go for it. If you haven't tried it before the flight, you may want to.  Bring snacks - bring new toys, books, etc. If you can sit by a window, that will be exciting for her during takeoff and landing. And just know that you're probably more stressed than you need to be - she'll probably surprise you and do great! It's only 2 hours, so you have that going for you. Just be prepared, though, that if you are flying during what is her normal nap time, she may not want to go to sleep and get crabby instead. Signed, Mom of 3 who has flown abroad several times with kids ranging 20 months - 7 years. 4951

Gift Wrap little toys that she can unwrap and immediately play with. Think dollar store. Do this every 15 minutes.

Benadryl makes single serving sizes. My mom keeps them in her handbag for food allergies. 4951
