That's because wallpaper is evil and it's a mind numbing tedious job. Anyone that bids on this will give you a bid in line with the evilness of the job.

Sorry I'm not being much help am I?

If you end up doing it yourself, there is a number of very useful DIY YouTube vids. I personally use hot water mixed with fabric softener in a spray bottle and a sheetrock mud trowel to remove it. Good luck! 4951

I did it ONCE with a steamer for wall paper removal I got from a local rent-it place.That was still tedious, but much easier.Why would you remove paint?At least with paint, you can usually sand it (if it requires that) and use a primer before re-coating. 4951

I was just getting ready to ask if someone painted over the wallpaper.  That just makes things worse.  I am facing this in both bathrooms and my kitchen at my new house.  In one bathroom I'm just going to removal all the sheetrock and install new.  Its small bathroom and I'm not going to jack with it.  4951

Thanks all. I have someone coming out today to give me a quote on removing the wallpaper in the kitchen and bath and to paint the walls. Hopefully it will not cost a fortune Emoticon. A few painters that I've contacted recommended that we just paint over the wallpaper, but I'd rather not do that. It must be difficult since no one seems to want the job!!! Lol. 4951

Though not recommended, I can remove your wallpaper, and texture and paint. The reason behind not removing wall paper from sheet rock is quite often it does too much damage to the sheetrock facing paper, which holds the sheetrock together.Dan the Handyman 832-538-7658 4951

@FoFa:

I think this was one of those situations where a comma would have been useful.

Remove wallpaper, and paint (verb). 4951

I have a steamer and used that- and I sprayed it before hand with some product I got at Home Depot to loosen the glue. Worked pretty well BUT the dumb*** contractor did not seal and paint the Sheetrock ( the wall paper was original to the house) so I messed up the sheet rock anyway. I ended up texturing the kitchen so it looks like stucco ( looks great) and texturing the dining room so it has a rough rustic look. Both projects turned out very nice but it was very time consuming- get ready for sticker shock- because if I did it for someone else I'd be charging an arm and a leg for labor!!
I also agree do NOT paint or texture over the wall paper- you will regret that.
I will NEVER have wallpaper again 4951

If you are going to remove it, and it is a plastic wall paper, you need to buy this tool (real cheap) that basically pokes a bunch of tiny little holes in the wall paper so chemicals and or steam can penetrate the plastic.Just so you know. 4951

They sell it at home depot. Check the paint isle by the caulking and strippers. 4951

Vinegar and water in a spray bottle works very well, too... Have used it many times to remove wall paper. You just have to let sheetrock dry and prime before painting. 4951

@Toriv: If your taking quotes, keep in mind that there's more to it than removing the wall paper and painting. The wall will need to be textured before painting. None of it is anything that you can't do yourself but it is a pain in the butt.

I've done this twice by myself -- literally, with no help. It's a major PIA. In my case, the paper was apparently installed without priming the wall first. When I tried to remove the wallpaper, there was no way to do so without damaging the sheetrock underneath. I applied a faux finish to the wall, making it appear somewhat like stucco. I ended up loving it! I got the product at Sherwin Willliams on North Park. It just takes time and elbow grease, but you can do it!!! 4951

@Toriv:
Do not paint over it! Eventually that sucks also... 4951
