I had a spinal tap Friday morning. I followed the directions...lay flat, drink lots of fluids for 24 hrs. Every time I sit up I have a violent headache, nausea and vision is a little blurry. Does anyone know how long this will last? Advil is not touching the headache. Any ideas for relief? 4951

I'd check with your doctor. I'm surprised they didn't offer more instruction afterward. 4951

It's pretty much the norm. Not a fun procedure! Sorry you feel so crappy!

I second Love2run tho, call the doc. They may prescribe you something else.

Keep drinking tho, flush that system! 4951

I have never had one but my ex did. He was out of commission for 3-4 days. Same symptoms as what you described. For some it takes longer for the puncture to heal or for your body to produce more spinal fluid. Just from his experience, he was told to continue to lay flat and drink a lot of water, Plain water, 10-12 8oz cups a day. Hang in there. Feel better soon. 4951

After my last epidural, which was a different kind because of prior back issues, they warned I could have a "positional" headache, only when I would sit up. They advised that I drink as much caffeine as possible and stay lying down when I could. It took about a week to go away completely, but it became less intense as the week went on. They did say they could try to "patch" it, but it may not work. I chose to stay home and wait. I hope you feel better soon! 4951

I've have several of these. All the problems you are saying, I've had also. But I was told each time by the doctor if it lasts more than 3 days to call them. So if I were you and you are still having issues by tomorrow I would call the nurse and they should schedule an appointment for you. It is the blurred vision that is cause for concern. 4951

I've experienced the same before.  I went to the ER & they said that sodium & caffeine helps it. They gave me an iv with sodium & it helped a lot!  I was able to sit up again before the IV was even complete.  So maybe try increasing sodium/caffeine intake?  I'm sorry you are experiencing this, I know it's bad!  Praying the headache goes. 4951

Thanks all. Helps to hear from people that have been through it. I didn't want to be a wimp but also didn't want to make anything worse by ignoring it. I googled it and read the instructions. Headaches seem to be common but it never said for how long. I will call tomorrow if not better. If it gets worse I will call tonight. 4951

@nickeleena thanks for asking! I'm doing better now. I spent the day at the hospital. They gave me a blood patch and it seems to be working. 4951
