My dad died two years ago at 89. In those last 10 years or so, my sister (who lived a few miles away) helped him go through his mail and pay his bills. He was sharp enough to catch (and pitch) most scams, but he set aside anything else to go over it with my sister. He avoided sales calls and other junk calls because he was mostly deaf (but could talk on the phone). If it was not somebody he knew on the phone, he just acted deafer than usual. They always gave up pretty quick.
@Retired_Engineer: That could be fun. I may try that the next time I get one of those irritating sales calls. I'll tell them to "speak up I'm hard of hearing" and then scream everything back at them like I want to make sure I heard them correctly.I got one at supper time, I told them that if they will give me their home phone number and tell me what time they eat supper I'll call them back and we can talk about whatever they want. They hung up. :-) I've actually been called rude by one guy. I told him.. you call me and interrupt what I'm doing to sell me something that I don't want or need.. and I'm rude?
