I dont know if i could turn my child in

@silly123: I don't know either.  Hard for me to say unless I was actually in that situation.  If he/she were a habitual offender, that might be different and maybe your only option.  Otherwise, I don't know.

Actually I would. If I knew he was involved in this criminal activity it would be a matter of time before he kills someone or someone kills him.  4951

My first instinct is to protect my child at all costs, HOWEVER, if he was a troubled kid and I was at my wits end and wanted to scare him straight, I can't say that I wouldn't consider doing the same thing she did.  It would break my heart, but better that than lose a child to a tragedy.

Mine is a good kid, and if he were just doing something relatively minor and more of the mischieveous side, then I would be more inclined to be his worst nightmare, and handle it myself.  If it were an actual crime, such as a minor offense, I might make him turn himself in, or something like that.

He was with some friends in HEB one day, acting like goofy teeenaged boys and being loud and disruptive (pushing each other in cart or something boneheaded like that), but not damaging anything.  The manager rightly tossed them out.  When I found out about it, I punished him separately, then I made him go back, WITH ME and personally apologize to the manager.  4951

@donnatella: This kid was far beyond that point and mom might have been afraid of him or his friends. I don't think she had a choice and was happy for the opportunity to have the police handle it while praying for a peaceful outcome.

Car jacking is dangerous. One day you will run up on someone who will not let their car go easily. It usually involves a bang you're dead. She might have saved his life. 4951

@djchavez0921: If he is into armed car jackings... the chances are more than just good that he has done other crimes. My guess is, they have already tried to correct his ways to no avail. Sometimes a good *** whipping ain't enough. It's a sad situation but she probably did the right thing. The next time he car jacks someone, he may use that gun.

Absolutely 100% YES. But then I've actually called the police on my son ( repeatedly) when he's had rage episodes. Absolutely the hardest thing I've had to do, but necessary.
Good for this Mom- Parent of the Year 4951

Yes, some people don't know if they would turn in their child.  It would be hard to discipline that child.  But the result of turning them in would be better than not doing it.  Give them a taste of the consequence. 4951

Yes, something as serious as car jacking I would turn him in...... I think... lolAs a mama I tend to want to protect my kid at all costs...  But sometimes they have to pay the price... Minor stuff I can take care of and likely do a better job than the police or judicial system would.....  I will never forget one time I was correcting him at a high school football game for something and he was arguing with me....  I grabbed his arm and was in his face talking to him through gritted teeth and some old bitty started to correct me on my parently skills - I really wanted to KILL at that moment...I have told my kids you go to jail for anything..... ie PI...  You will SIT I will not run out and bail you out you will be sitting in the drunk tank.... 4951

I told my kids if they ever got arrested, don't bother calling me until the next day.  Yes, I would turn them in if they ever did anything like that.  Fortunately, neither of them have ever gotten into trouble (at least that I know about). 4951

Could I turn him in? I don't know, But what I did do was let his butt sit in a cell for three months on his third drug bust.
It was a tough three months for both of us.
I'm proud to say that he has been straight for the past 5 years and has a good wife and two wonderful kids that he worries about constantly.
It was tough but more than worth it! 4951
