I don't know where to begin to look so I'm really hoping some of you fine people can point me in the right direction. A very good friend is going through a rough patch & is in need of a doctor who will help with anti depressants & anxiety treatment/ meds. Any suggestions for a good one? He needs them to take ameritane by Aetna insurance if that matters. 4951

@Heathur:

I went to Dr. Volpe for my anxiety back in high school..he treats it naturally with amino acids/vitamins..it worked. Never tried antidepressants. He also has vitamins for anger, ADHD, autism. The vitamins/amino acids come in powder form and you mix it in any liquid. It tastes like bananas if you mix it it water. 4951

@Heathur:  Your friend needs to first check with his insurance to see who is approved in this area.  There is no sense trying to pick a provider first.  His insurance can provide a list of approved providers as well as explain his copays and number/frequency of visits.If he needs medicine, he needs more than a therapist.  A psychiatrist is needed for prescription meds.Therapists and psychologist cannot prescribe meds.If he's covered by your friends insurance, Dr Ashok Khushalani in Humble is great.  Sinead Lancaster in Humble is an excellent therapist. 4951

@Retired_Engineer:
He texted me asking if I can find him someone to help because he's not ok. I asked his insurance. Trying to get multiple doctors & hoping one is in his network. I highly doubt he'll offer up his insurance book or pamphlet or whatever it is that tells his who's in his network. Just trying to help him any way I can. I've never dealt with depression or anxiety & neither has anyone close to me. He's the first so I'm not really sure what else to do other than listen, encourage, & try to help when he asks for it.

I don't have depression but have friends that do. I had a friend try St.Johns wart and after a week she felt a big difference. Also Valerian root is like valium..I'm big on herbal stuff because all Rx have so many side effects. .
Hope your friend feels better soon. 4951

@Heathur:  He's made the important first step of saying he needs help. You can be supportive and help him but he needs to take the next steps of going to the doctor.  As Stealth said, you can look online or call his insurance to see which providers are available.  Encourage him to make the appointment himself.

Also, ask him if his company has an EAP (Employee Assistance Program) program. He can start there by calling the EAP group and they can refer him to docs in the area. Also, EAP will typically cover 3-5 sessions a year. I just went through it myself for different issues and it has helped some.Also, if you're very worried about possible immediate issues, offer infomration on 24-hr hotlines, like www.crisiscallcenter .org/crisisservices. html . Good luck! 4951

I'm the same way about herbal remedies, as is Hearhur. Those are excellent suggestions. Fish oil also helps balance mood and L-theanine helps with anxiety. 4951

@Heathur....In my humble opinion, dude, he first and foremost needs a regular PCP that he feels comfortable speaking with, having an open conversation about his emotions, anxiety, stress, feelings, etc etc...I highly recommend Dr. Diaz in Atascocita.... (# 281-812-1846)He has a very relaxed, easy to talk to, easy going, calming, bedside manner.....   Also, I would highly suggest getting off of all fast food, all caffeine, and all sugar........Start taking a Vitamin D supplement...(I personally suggest / use PacificCoast NutriLabs 5000 IU Vitamin D3 Supplement)....Here's the direct link to them on Amazon:http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00EV8AS86/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&ampEmoticonsc=1It's also vital that your friend get outside everyday.......The natural healing rays of the sun, plus the fresh air, and the exercise is all beneficial to a healthy, balanced state of living.......Just a mere walk does the body, mind, and spirit wonders.....Let him know that he's NOT going crazy, he's NOT losing his mind, he's NOT possessed, and he's NOT alone........Anxiety, Panic, and Stress Disorders are a legitimate health concern that many people struggle with daily...  But there is hope....  And there is help.... 4951
