my poodles love to go with me when I go out so I take them . I have 2 bowls of water in the van & a bowl of dog food in case they get hungry or thirsty . I always leave the windows cracked so they can get fresh air  & they are never left in the van more than 15 minutes alone. I have had these dogs 14 years , so I damn well know how to care for them .So I ran into  the drug store to pick up my RX & came right back out , total time  gone was less than 10 minutes. Some ****** had put a note under my wiper calling me a "stupid Ignorant *****" leaving 3 dogs cooped up in a hot vehicle . It also said I should be locked up !My poodles are treated better than most people treat their kids , this person does not know me or my dogs & has no idea how well my dogs are taken care of. It was 35 degrees outside & overcast , so no way was it hot in my van . If people would mind their own business this world would be a lot better off .Sorry just had to vent my anger ....I feel better letting everyone know how I feel .....sigh . 4951

I'm sure their only concern was for the dogs and their safety. Like you said...they don't know you. So for all they know the dogs could be in that van for hours at a time. In the bitter cold of winter or the deadly heat of summer. It makes no difference. It ticks me off when I see any animal left in a vehicle. 4951

@taramay: You're right. I was a Houston firefighter for 35 years and you would be surprised how many times we were called to get a child or a pet out of a locked vehicle in a parking lot somewhere. Even if you crack the windows a little it probably isn't enough to keep the interior of the vehicle from sweltering heat, especially in the summertime. When the owner of the vehicle was found, they would always say that they were only gone for a few minutes but in some of those cases it was necessary to have an ambulance take the child to the emergency room for evaluation. If you love your children and pets..  just don't take that chance.

So on one hand, we should all look out for each other, lend a hand, provide help to those that can't help themselves; on the other hand, we should all mind our own business and stop being nosy.  Here's a PSA:  Taking animals in a car to run errands is optional, repeat, optional.  Leaving them in a car, for any length of time, is a choice that doesn't have to be made.  Leave no reason for concern and the world will seem less intrusive. 4951

I dunno WJO, I agree with everyone else here. I am sure you love em, but leave em home or keep em with you. Blissfully retired makes a valid concern as do the others here. You are lucky he left a note.My self personally on a hot day (100) have BROKEN a few windows to allow ventilation for the animal. I have also left a note with my contact information as I want to make sure the folks know who the ****** was that broke their window and why. I have never been contacted (which to me seems to indicate they knew it was wrong). Just leave your babies at the house.Now dont even get me started on the SOB's that leave their dogs LOOSE in the back of pickup trucks going down the road @ 65 miles an hour. To me this takes an entirely special type of STUPID.Grrrrrrrrrrrrr. 4951

On a side note, calling someone an "ignorant *****" is not the best way to plead your case & change their behavior. 4951

You all know I love my dogs, I see nothing wrong with taking with and leaving in the car if it truly is a few minutes, and the sun is hidden and the temp is reasonable and it won't climb in the car/truck. They enjoy the ride and don't seem to mind. But here in Houston those conditions happen so infrequently for me it is only like once every few years all the conditions are correct.Any other time, they can stay home. 4951

If they love to go with you, a good compromise would be to leave them home while you run errands unless you have someone with you, then later, take them for a drive, stop and get them a treat or stop at a park. Nothing living should be left in a car that doesn't have the ability to stay alone AND safely open the door, which includes pets and young children. 4951

I think there are people that can assess a situation and determine if there is danger and help the animal. Calling names and being reactionary does not help call attention and help to educate pet owners. All that does is put people on the defensive and is not in the best interest of the animal. Acting like an ****** even for a good cause still makes you an ******. Our dogs go everywhere with my husband. He drives a 2014 ford diesel pick up. He stopped at the gas station for a drink and some woman was screaming at him. Threatened to call the police. She saw the dogs in the truck and flipped out. Didn't take the time to notice that the diesel truck was running. Ac on and dogs perfectly content. Fords have a keypad on the door so you can leave it run and lock from the outside. 4951

Yep too many nosy people. @WJo keep on doing what you're doing. For one you aren't here in Houston where it gets extremely hot early on, you're in Kentucky in Winter. I know you wouldn't bring any harm to your babies.  You should have laughed at the note & threw it in the garbage. No need to fret over something that isn't true! 4951

@FoFa:

This is me.

My old girl loves the tahoe. Its like her dog house on wheels. When I'm working around the house and in the garage I'll back the tahoe up in the drive and open the back hatch. She jumps in and watches me work. A little smile on her face, tail at a constant slow wag. Sigh. It makes me happy to see her so content. 4951

I can see both sides I have also seen several news reports where vehicles were stolen with dogs inside....    So just be careful.   I am not saying I have NEVER left my dog in the car because I have but I am also a dog lover and if someone left a note on the window I would understand that they are just looking out for the dog.  4951
