I can't think of any reason why not.  It isn't news that plants have medicinal properties. 4951

I think it should be legalized. Maybe it's the Libertarian part of me that says we shouldn't tell adults what they can and cannot do. It's a choice that I believe adults have a right to make. I'm sure that marijuana smoking is just as bad for your lungs as tobacco if not worse but like other vices, adults should have the right to choose to indulge or not. Besides.. aren't most of those that would partake  already doing so? 4951

Don't whine when the legal marijuana is taxed and more expensive.  Don't whine when you find out it's a short term therapy, with long term dangerous and degenerative side effects.Smoking marijuana regularly (a joint a day) can
damage the cells in the bronchial passages which protect the body
against inhaled microorganisms and decrease the ability of the immune
cells in the lungs to fight off fungi, bacteria, and tumor cells. For
patients with already weakened immune systems, this means an increase in
the possibility of dangerous pulmonary infections, including pneumonia,
which often proves fatal in AIDS patients.Studies further suggest that marijuana is a
general "immunosuppressant" whose degenerative influence extends beyond
the respiratory system. Regular smoking has been shown to materially
affect the overall ability of the smokers body to defend itself against
infection by weakening various natural immune mechanisms, including
macrophages (a.k.a. "killer cells") and the all-important T-cells.
Obviously, this suggests the conclusion, which is well-supported by
scientific studies, that the use of marijuana as a medical therapy can
and does have a very serious negative effect on patients with
pre-existing immune deficits resulting from AIDS, organ transplantation,
or cancer chemotherapy, the very conditions for which marijuana has most often been touted and suggested as a treatment. 4951

I won't whine when legal marijuana is taxed and more expensive because just like tobacco, I will choose to not smoke it. Why not benefit from taxes? Making it illegal only benefits the drug cartels. You may very well be correct about all of the detrimental effects of both medical and recreational use of marijuana but like alcohol we have tried prohibition and it was not only a total failure but making it illegal actually benefited organized crime.   4951

@fcabanski:
I have very strong feelings about this subject and feel that big government should stay out of our everyday lives .If we as adults care to partake in consuming cannabis we should be allowed to . Remember its just a plant . Also burning plant matter is not the only way to enjoy there are edibles and vaporizers that are easier on the lungs . You might do some more research because your take on it is wrong . Tax it regulate it legalize it . But do something other than spread fear among the reefer madness crowd.

I may need to invest in Frito Lay, McDonald's and Domino's, ahead of the legalization.  Think of all the additional munchie potential! 4951

Republicans from Tyler and Fort Worth, huh?  I would have expected it to be someone from Austin or Dallas.  Either way, I'm glad that it's being proposed.  I doubt if it will pass at this time, but at least they are moving in the right direction.  I've never used it and probably never will, but it's ridiculous that we fill our prisons with people for possession. 4951

@buffaloglenn: My first thought was Cheetos, but I think they are made by Frito Lay.
