I drove through the apartments that are going to be torn down and the number of feral and abandoned cats is heartbreaking. Some of the cats have collars on them. I bought a huge bag of food and fed as many as I could. They are starving. Don't know if it is true or not, but one of the last remaining tenants said that demolition on the apartments may start this Sunday. Since some of the buildings are up on piers, and the cats like to hang out underneath them, I hate to think what will happen to them when they start tearing down the apartments.I called the SPCA and they told me to call animal control, which I have not done. I know that the feline rescue groups are aware of the situation, but it is overwhelming with so many cats and kittens. Poor kitties. Anybody have any ideas on how to save them? I'm going back tomorrow afternoon to feed them again. 4951

@noel: There has been a lot of cats there for years.  So nice of you to feed them.  Unfortunately,  there are so many feral cats,  and the rescues are full as far as I know.  I would love to help too.

LMN feline rescue is trying to Trap/neuter/release some of the feral ones. The abandoned ones , if people could catch them and maybe foster them until they could be adopted out, that could help a lot. I just really hate to see animal control called without trying everything else first. That would be a 100% death sentence. 4951

It is so sad. Maybe we could take the ones with collars and put them on classifieds. 4951

This is very disturbing. Someone should contact the media to save these animals. 4951

@2old2care That is why I have not called animal control. I want them to have a chance at a home. One of the rescue groups was able to catch a few cats last night.Does anyone know if it is true that they are going to start demolition this Sunday? I sure hope not. 4951

This makes me really upset too, I'd love to catch any of the owners that abandoned their pet and beat the ever living **** out of them. 4951

I have never seen a cat starve to death. Even a pet cat. Alter and release is a good program. 4951

Cats think of nothing but murder. They can survive. 4951

I am going back later today with more food and to see what i can do to help catch them. The cats have relied on the people at the apartments feeding them and many are abandoned pets. They don't know how to fend for themselves. You should have seen them scarf down the food I gave them yesterday. Also, some of them are in need of medical attention. 4951

I'm not being heartless about it and I appreciate and commend people trying to help. Of course they scarfed down the food. But I just don't think you are doing them any favors by continuing to feed them in a place they will not be able to stay. It will stop them from finding food on their own.

From what I understand there are 100+ cats...there are not enough home for all of them. Trapping many , getting medical care for the ones that need it, altering then release. Even the abandoned pets will survive. How many of our "pet" cats have y'all seen catch and eat lizards or bugs. 4951

@2old2care:  Love LMN!!  Good people.  That is where we got our two fur-babies.  They are now too spoiled rotten to even be considered cats, and might be insulted if someone called them cats.  They consider themselves above all life forms.  LOL!  Emoticon Emoticon 4951

Cats aside, this demonization of the developer is getting rediculous.

What about the previous owner that apparently let that complex rot?
What about all the folks there that allowed a cat colony of over 100+ to develop?

Jeeze people! The developer bought the property fairly and from what I can tell, pretty publicly. Yes, a lot of people had to move. But they've known it was coming for quite a few months. If the PRIOR OWNER had any decency, he would have notified the residents when he put the property up for sale. (Or she, whatever)

It is admirable that you all want to help these cats, but it is hardly realistic you can save them all. That's life. You can't save them all. Never have, never will. But acting like the developer is the spawn of satan is getting a little silly. 4951

@BooBear:  We never had a bug problem in the house, but in the summertime, a few of the big tree bugs would slip in.  Since we adopted our fur-babies, I haven't seen a single tree bug since.  I am sure they both sit at the door to the garage and wait for them to try to come in at night.

I'm sure they are snacking down on them as they cross the threshhold.  I can tell when they are hunting because in the still and quiet of the night, they chatter and run around like wild hellions.

Best pest control ever!  4951
