I won't bore y'all with the whole article, but apparent Taylor Swift has trademarked the phrase "this sick beat" like anyone over 12 would want to use it. She did not trade mark "shake it off" because, ironically, that phrase is already owned by some diet company. Self-centered mentality....don't use mine but I can use yours.

If anyone wants to read it, it is on CNN.com. Personally, I think I read and repostedI more than enough of the story.

What if someone spells it like 'this sic beet'?

I'm confused by the reasoning of trademarking a phrase. 4951

Just means you can't use it as your own phrase to make money - sort of dopey. 4951

@Francita: I'm sure that would be deemed an infringement. It's too close and could be confused. 4951

this is not a new situation. a number of years back ralph lauren filed for a copyright on the word 'polo' as tho he had coined the word, invented the game and it was never in use before. so i serve notice i have copyrights on the word 'awesome' and any variation thereof so that every time some braindead blowdried dork or pimplyfaced adolescent uses the word, i get a quarter.....i'm gonna be richer than that guy waiting for his money from nigeria! oh and i thought 'shake it off' was owned by these folks.... 4951

Taylor who???  Oh, that semi-talented girl that gets in relationships then breaks up so she can write a broken-hearted or angry song about them.  I'll see if I can copy write the terms "Awesome Sauce" and "Amaze Balls" so that I can lock them up in a safe, cover them in concrete, and sink them in the deepest part of the ocean. 4951

that's not new either.....look back at the songs being released by joni mitchell, judy collins, crosby, stills and nash, carly simon, james taylor, the beatles, eric clapton and tons of others...everyone writes about what they are going thru. probably the difference is the cult of celebrity that has accelerated in the last few years so that every breath, giggle, fart, wardrobe malfunction and piece of burnt toast is 'news' to some pathetic obsessives 4951
