On the 10 o'clock Channel 2 News just reported a vicious attack on two young children and their mother who was trying to protect her children in Houston by three Pit Bulls being walked by the young woman who owns them. The victims are now being treated at a downtown Houston hospital. The Pit Bulls viciously attacked the children's heads. More will be reported on this in the morning newspaper. So sad that, per the reporting, these children will require surgery and have emotional scars from this vicious attack which was unprovoked. 4951

Well she didn't say anything negative. She just repeated a recent story from the local news.

A pit bull attack out of nowhere is usually not the type of headline any parent wants to hear. The girl’s mother, Lucila, says Remayah was riding her bike in the neighborhood when she stopped to pet a Lab mix named Tank who was wandering around outside. The Lab then attacked her, biting at her face, and that’s when the Hernandez family’s pit bull named Trigger jumped over a fence and entered the fray.“To me, he’s like a hero. He’s a protective dog,” Lucila said. “We taught him to be protective and caring for the family.”Despite being saved by the pit bull attack, Remayah had to be rushed to Delray Medical where she underwent plastic surgery in order to repair the gashes on her face. The family also had been planning a Disney World trip but used the money for medical care. The dog named Tank was eventually picked up by animal control and euthanized, but his owner, Nehemias Gaspar, claims his dog would never have attacked the little girl as stated by the Hernandez family.“He was very friendly with all of the kids. He was a great dog. He was a very nice dog,” he said. “I sincerely believe inside of me that my dog is innocent. It’s very unfortunate what happen but I’m more worried about the girl now that my dog is gone.”LINK 4951

SORRY FOFA BUT that is NOT the story reported by the news. You are referring probably to another story. The Animal Control Officer interviewed on the News said it was Three PIT bulls and they are ALL now in quarantine. NO lab mix was seen in the video; ALL were PIT BULLS. The young lady who owns them could not control all of them. Pit Bulls are bred to have high PREY drive and Aggression to attack other animals. Many times dogs with HIGH PREY DRIVE view young children as PREY. Sad situation; especially the damage to their faces and skulls as the dogs went for their heads. That poor mother did all she could in this attack to protect her babies. Children getting off school buses, walkers and jiggers need to be careful as we are seeing more of this breed in Suburbia due to the ignorance of the history of this breed by the new owners and some of the Rescues who adopt/sell them. 4951

Fortunately things are not as horrible as they could be.  In regards to all the victims needing surgery, this is what the report actually says:"Their father, Domingo Valasquez, said Victoria MIGHT need surgery, but
both children are expected to be OK. His wife, Ingrid, should make a
full recovery as well."Again, if folks want to blast something, blast the dog owners.  Not the dogs. 4951

@sh56: Even a scratch is too much. Yes, the dog owners are responsible but the damage these dogs can do is way worse than most other breeds. Yes, pitbulls are very nice with people 99% percent of the time. The problem is that they can actually kill you and they also seem to have this "unexplained" episodes of rage more often than other breeds.

That is my point.  If you own one, keep it confined in a secure area and do not parade it around in the general public unrestrained.  The owner is at fault not the dog. 4951

Witnesses told KPRC 2 that the children and their mother were walking home from school when the dogs got away from their owner and attacked, unprovoked. The dogs' owner was given several citations at the scene. She reportedly told investigators that the animals got out by mistake because she didn't secure her apartment door properly.People who live and work nearby said they see her out running with the dogs all the time."I always see her with those three dogs, and she cannot control them," Mejorado said. "I see her trying to handle all three of them, and they're big dogs."Domingo Valasquez said he has seen the dogs before, too."I see them a couple of times," he said. "They walk along and stuff like that. I don't know why she has three dogs; she cannot control them. They have to do something. This is not right." 4951

@notfromhere: I don't know how you feel about Cesar Millan but I agree with what he's saying here. http://www.cesarsway.com/dogbehavior/basics/How-Did-Pit-Bulls-Get-a-Bad-Rap
