Those of you into the stock market know it is down around 350 today. Not the best news but not horrible if you're in the market to buy.  Say you had an extra $1000....what stock would you buy and hold today? 4951

@QueenB: I bought Sunoco a few days ago (SUN). They are the parent company of all of these Stripes gas stations you see popping up everywhere. Or a healthcare stock. Contrary to that albatross known as ObamaCare, the one positive is that healthcare stocks are doing pretty good right now (that includes biotechnology). 4951

@QueenB: Not necessarily. But look at all the major oil stocks. They keep going up. Cheap gas means there is more demand for it because people are willing to travel more. 4951

@WskyTngoFxtrt: Do you think gas is cheaper now than it has been because there is soooo much of it available and, if so, does that mean that crude will keep falling until the supply slows down a bit?  This is my concern on buying an oil stock just yet.

I am still thinking about getting gun stocks like Smith& Wesson or Ruger as they did real well during the last six years. 4951

@QueenB: I wouldn't try to time it too tight. Like notfromhere said, long term oil stocks are a great choice. Plus, they typically pay a pretty healthy dividend. 4951

@CBP210:  If the Republicans are elected in 2016, will gun stocks go up, or down?

@QueenB: That is a good question but I do know if Hilary wins or another senseless tragedy like Sandy Hook then definitely the mass buying will happen again and stocks rise. What a shame.

Microsoft took a pretty good hit today after a heck of a run up last year.  Might be worth a look, decent dividend to wait it out too. 4951

@WskyTngoFxtrt: I'm a total non-expert in the market but I'm concerned that crude will not go back up very quickly, and that it won't go up very much once it does start back up. Unless the Saudi's cut production, then I'm in oil stocks right now.

@QueenB: I don't think oil is going to see $130 a barrel any time soon. I see oil as a "buy it and forget about it" stock. It's going to go up, but it will be gradual. I'm hoping to buy a bit once I get my work bonus. (Or, IF I get one that is...)

Who do you all buy your stocks through? eTRade, another site, individual broker? 4951
