I've done poorly, being sick the past week was bad, hardly moved and drank too many hot toddies. I did ride my bike for an hour yesterday, longer than I intended, I got lost and had to use the GPS on my phone to find my way home. 😊 4951

I did did ride my bike for an hour yesterday, longer than I intended, I got lost and had to use the GPS on my phone to find my way home. 😊
 
@MarT: I would get lost for hours in the greenbelts.  I sure do miss them. My DH always takes the dog for a walk when we visit my parents so he can go walking in them.Hope you are feeling better!

@Okiedokie: I started counting calories and it's amazing how quickly it can all add up. Walnuts are relatively high in calories but very good for you because of the Omega 3. Dairy is high in calories as well. Just 1 ounce of cheddar cheese contains 114 calories. A boiled egg, however, is only 78 calories. I'm trying to lose at least 3 pounds a week and it's not easy. Goal is to lose 35 pounds in 12 weeks. I'm down roughly 7 or 8 pounds since Jan 5th. 4951

I started counting calories and it's amazing how quickly it can all add up. Walnuts are relatively high in calories but very good for you because of the Omega 3. Dairy is high in calories as well. @WskyTngoFxtrt: Have you looked into the BMR calculator thing that shows how many calories you need to maintain/lose weight? 7-8lbs is great!  I, personally, think losing gradually is the better way to go.

Apparently I need to eat about 1500 calories a day to lose a pound a week. I burn about 400 to 500 a day during my morning walk and I maybe eat 1500 calories a day at the most.
 
@WskyTngoFxtrt: Mine is 1350. I guess I am not eating enough-of course, I don't exercise either Emoticon

I don't see too many folks incorporating muscle/strength building activities into their regimens (or at least talking about it).  Muscle is metabolically active all of the time and will help to increase your BMR.  Increasing strength allows for greater force production and thus, will be more efficient at articulation movement, one of the most important things we can do as we age.  At some point, constantly lowering your maintenance caloric intake will have you fighting a losing battle.  Conditioning is good, but unless you are doing sport specific training, long slow endurance activity can actually be catabolic in nature.   4951
