The dog found a bat on the ground Saturday night. I thought at the time it was dead but put it in a box with some towels just in case. When I looked at it yesterday I didn't seem to be moving but out of laziness I didn't get rid of it. Well guess what, today it is moving slightly and we can see it is breathing. I don't know if it is hurt or what the problem is. Does anyone know of a rescue or rehabilitation place that takes bats? 4951

I'd call the health department.  A sick bat may be rabid. 4951

Be careful- rabies would be a huge concern. There was a stray dog that tested positive for rabies in Tomball over the weekend 4951

Well after 5 phone calls I finally was connected to BARC. They told me to just dispose of it. When I told the guy but it's still alive he got rather rude and told me I said just dispose of it. Glad to know they care soo much! 4951

From what I've heard, you do NOT want animal control involved if that bat is rabid(sounds like it is from the behavior). They will quarantine your dogs at your expense & require you to build an enclosure in your yard for your dogs for a specified period of time if your dogs test negative for rabies. 4951

Find someone to check the bat for rabies.
If it is rabid, your dog has been exposed.
And for sure you want to be watchful of that even if it has had its rabies shot.
Also, please be careful yourself around the bat...we don't want you to become rabid! 4951

@OhHappyPets: as far as I know there's only one way to test for rabies and the animal in question has to be euthanized
