If they get daily long walks and socialization with other dogs at dog parks occasionally and making them work for food through training exercises and games. They dig a whole lot less.
 
If u expect a dog to exercise by just letting them out back to play well you are asking for holes dug.

Never had a golden that would dig.... But OMG yes they will befriend anyone !!!  And if you have a ball that makes you a VERY special friend!!!  But rest assured they will protect their owner, I was surprised when mine made a move toward someone to protect me... 4951

My mom's dog is nuts outside digs up worms, rocks, sticks it's funny
@silly123: This is exactly what ours does everytime she goes outside.  She is a lab/sharpei according to the vet.  Drives me crazy.  She can dig a foot deep hole in 3 seconds flat. 4951
