Madison Turner, who's from Alabama, tells Atlanta station WSB-TV ( Story Here ) he ordered a double quarter-pounder with cheese from a McDonald's in the Marietta area shortly before he was pulled over last week.Turner says the officer told him he saw him eating the cheeseburger for two miles, telling the man "You can't just go down the road eating a hamburger."The ticket, issued under Georgia's distracted driving law, states in the comments section that the offense is "eating while driving." 4951

He could have died from a heart attack.  But since distracted driving is an offense, the officer won't be fired. 4951

@fcabanski: So what would one call applying make-up, reading the paper, talking to passengers, talking on the phone, etc. while driving?

Surely that officer will not be employed very much longer...

@Fallon: As silly as it sounds, he is right. It is distracted driving, and technically correct But does he cite everyone eating? What about drinking a Starbucks? Where does he draw the line? 4951

I hate distracted drivers but this sounds like a bit much.If the guy was weaving in his lane, or drifting into other lanes, then it makes sense.  However, if his driving was still good, then he didn't deserve a ticket. What's next?  Tickets for drinking coffee/soft drinks while driving?  How about listening to music?   4951

Ds and I have this conversation every trip back and forth from Austin.  Which fast food place had the easiest, tidiest "car" food, when we don't want to stop.  Taco Bell loses big time, usually if we don't want to stop, it's McD's, unhealthy for sure, but tidy.  Emoticon   I try only to stop at Buc-ees to fill the gas tank and a clean bathroom.  If this guys driving was okay, the ticket was unnecessary.  Honestly, the most distracted driving I've done was with four little kids in the back.  4951

@FoFa: Mmmmmm.  Now I'm hungry for a cheeseburger.  Maybe tonight.  Probably not McD's though; somewhere with higher quality.  Culvers or Whataburger double might do the trick.

If it would have been from Whataburger or 5 Guys, his actions would have been totally justified. 4951

Alabama>>>>>>>>>>>Georgiathis is an OLD way cities and  towns and states used to raise revenue. ticket drivers from elsewhere, preferably far away because they just pay the tickets since that is more costeffective than having to return to contest the ticket. plus it doesn't **** off the local taxpayers if the police ticket drivers from out of town so you don't have trouble when the election rolls around. imagine the cop giving  ticket to a local resident for that?  not hardly...the driver would be ****, his friends and family would be ****, and the small business owners would be **** 4951

@Retired_Engineer: Unfortunately, I've seen men do MUCH worse. Now those pervs should be cited for sure.

Or, when their companion tries to "relax" them from their stress while they are driving.  It's always funny to see the wrecked car afterward, like in "Parenthood" and a few others. 4951

I had a defensive driving instructor in 96 tell us that eating while driving was a ticket able offense for distracted driving. He also talked about a woman who was stopped and ticketed numerous times for reading a book. Also, having something hanging from the rear view mirror. You could be ticketed for obstructed view. He also said you can be ticketed for driving the speed limit. Failure to control speed, it is called. I never understood that one. Since taking that class, if I'm eating while driving and pass a cop, I put my food down. 4951

The only time I eat while driving is when we are on a tight timeline (very rare) and I only get small items that can easily be held/controlled in one hand.  Better yet, just get finger foods. 4951
