From what I've heard, Keurig machines have a tendency to break down if you use hard water like we have here.  I'm assuming the one built-in to a refrigerator would use the house water supply for the ice maker and the coffee machine.  If it's built-in, it will probably be much more expensive to repair/replace.It makes for an option when you need to replace your refrigerator, but I don't know anyone that would replace a working refrigerator just to buy one with a built-in Keurig. 4951

Wouldn't that be hard to keep clean? That's just something else to go wrong. Refrigerators last a long time.. coffee makers don't. Sounds like you might eventually end up with a non-functioning coffee maker on your fridge. I like new ideas and innovation but  that doesn't sound like a good idea to me... JMO. 4951

@BlissfullyRetired:  Well, like the old saying goes:Glue two things together that have never been put together before and there will be a demand for it!Here's my new invention, a tactical long-range knife

I recently switched to using jug water because the water down here is hard. While we do attempt to clean the Keurig well once a month, it's not an easy task the way the thing is built.

I'm not too open to this refrigerator/Keurig idea myself! 4951

That's why a high-end water softener and filter system in Houston is a must...if you can afford it. Everything that uses water I the house lasts forever and it tastes good and is better for you. 4951

I'll get excited about our Keurig when it starts producing a 24oz cup full of coffee at one time.  4951

My older Keurig's instructions said to use distilled water.  That makes a cup of coffee even pricier, but I love the convenience since I am the only coffee drinker in the house . 4951

I love my Keurig. To clean it, fill the reservoir with plain vinegar and run it through until all the vinegar has been used. Then flush it with clean water 1 or 2 reservoirs full, until all traces of vinegar are gone.  I always use distilled water in mine. It prevents mineral build up and makes the coffee taste worlds better than tap water.  You only have to do the vinegar treatment once every 6 months or so if you always use bottled water in your brewer.  The Keurig is not difficult to maintain, but I agree that the refrigerator might not be the best location for it. I've heard that Keurigs are known to break after a while, but I used my first one for years and passed it on to my sister when I got a new one to go in my new kitchen. I've never had one of mine break down or have any problems whatsoever. My mom's first Keurig inexplicably stopped working after about a year, but she is still on her second one and it's been going strong for years. I'd buy a new one once a year if necessary because I love it. 4951

I just got a new Keurig today! My parents brought it over as a belated anniversary present. It's the kind that makes individual cups or fills a 4 cup carafe. Yay! 4951

I wish someone would invent a self loading/unloading dishwasher. That would be better than a coffee maker to me. 4951
