Anybody start having irregular menstrual cycles in your early 40's? I haven't had a period since Novemeber 1.
I took a test I am not pregnant and my tubes are tied.

It's freaking me out! 4951

@foxymama:  Welcome to Peri-Menopause. It's nothing to worry about.  Just mention it to your GYN at your next appointment.  Yes, it's time to start carrying "necessaries" all the time now.

Peri-Menopause can start in the 30s and is the 5-10, maybe even 15 years prior to menopause when things simply wack out (for lack of a better term).  Irregular cycles are just the beginning.  Early hot flashes, mood swings, etc. can happen, as well as very heavy, even flooding cycles that can come up out of the blue.  First one scared me so bad I went to the ER thinking I was hemorrhaging.  They tested me for pregnancy because it was very similar to a miscarrage minus the horrible pain.  Turned out to be Peri. 4951

I'll be 42 this year and it's not that it's irregular - but since I turned 40 the cramps and everything are totally worse than ever.

It could be early menopause.  Are you getting the sweats or other side effects of menopause? 4951

@WJo:  Mine is against this unless it's a last resort. And no, heavy cycles aren't enough for her to agree....I tried, but no dice. 4951

I have gotten wayyyyy more regular since turning 40.  Exactly 3 weeks and 3 days every single time.  I've always had really bad cramps and a heavy period since I was 12 so nothing new there. 4951

@donnatella: I'm just afraid to try to stop it without a hysterectomy.  It's mother natures way for us unfortuately.  Years ago I tried one of the birth control shots after I had my DD and ended up with it for 3 months straight.  Never used that one again.  Then I took the pill for a few years and that regulated me.  Now my issue is the pain and heavy cycle since hitting 40. 4951

@dotti573: I love the generic midal at Wal Mart.  Between that and ibuprofen the first two days are bearable now.....mostly.

@Nurse3:
Midol works for my migraines but not cramps.  Nothing seems to help them. 4951

I started peri menopause in my 30's- had to have a total hysterectomy because of some nasty fibroids growing into my uterine wall. I would not recommend a hysterectomy unless it's absolutely necessary. It totally sent me into a physical tailspin. It's been 8 years and it's been a struggle. But it was necessary so I did what I had to. HRT and birth control pills can be helpful but research your risk for cancer- my Mom died of breast cancer so no hormones for me. That's why the hysterectomy was so rough on me 4951

Have you been checked for endometriosis? That will cause you to have severe cramping and bleeding. 4951
