Yea, friggin scammers, may of got me, short story, my mom couldn't get into her Yahoo email, after trying several times it said she had to call Yahoo, I googled their phone #, got a number from their answers.yahoo.com (its all over their site, if it's a scam, can't believe they havn't deleted the number or put a warning out, as old posts are from 08 showing the #), the guy that answered had me allowing him to join (get in my moms computer, whatever its called), trying to tell me someone was attacking her email, wanted me to buy his security, showed me they had my SS # (I had a credit app in her documents he pulled it from). If he was, I got played well, googling the # some say it's a scam, that they are trying to get you to buy their security services, and once they get your CC your screwed. I didn't give them my CC, but he was in her computer for a few minutes, I believe he pulled up that credit app (maybe to scare me into buying his stuff, but he has a lot of my personal info) so if I don't find out from yahoo it's legit (which I don't think it is), I got a lot of hassle with freezing my credit, canceling cards, and... worried about my moms bank info as she does a lot of banking online, it's scary.Â
@cador: as long as it was yahoo, you're likely safe. remember all these companies are trying to sell you crap to maximize their profits. but do this as a just in case...if your mom can access her account, have her change the password and change the security question. the procedure they followed is called remote access or remote administration. you can disable it but then if you run into this trouble again, how do you get it fixed? anyway after she changes password can go to  Â
housecall.trendmicro .com/Â Â Â from there download the little applet for the computer and run it. select whichever you need 32 bit or 64....it will check over your computer for malware...the other thing you can do is to download malwarebytes. that is a free program tho there is a paid version as well. you can load malwarebytes on a flashdrive, it can be updated on the flashdrive and run to check for malware on a computer by simply plugging it into a usb porthttps://www.malwarebytes.org/downloads/
