@bbqguy how do you season your baby back ribs?
I am cooking some tomorrow in the oven. I know that's a sin but it's too cold to go outside and grill. 4951

@foxymama: I see @sapphire hooked you up. I'm a salt and pepper guy on most things...especially when making them just for us. The girls like them a little sweet, so I put a little jam(apple, grape, peach, red pepper, etc..) on them, then wrap them up to rest at the end. For others, I use Sucklebusters brand rub called Hog Waller. It's great, and it melts into a great coating when finished. If you ever want to try it, shoot me a message and I'll give you some. I buy it in bulk, so I keep plenty of it around. Emoticon

@BBQguy: I agree with you on that one. I didn't believe my Dad when he taught that to me, but it seriously does work! When I used to have house parties, I would just use salt & pepper because I didn't know what people liked and didn't like. When it was just me grilling for myself and my ex, I would jazz it up with different tastes. Emoticon

I've used just about every combination on every kind of meat, and I always come back to salt & pepper. The "Hog Waller" I mentioned above is perfect for my big rib cooks because it works great with the flavor of pork, and it takes the temperatures well without burning too fast. When you have 50-60 slabs of ribs, there's no time to baby every single one. That's why I use it. I also mix it into my pulled pork, which gets cooked with just salt & pepper at first. And with brisket, it's ONLY salt & pepper for me..No matter who or how many I'm cooking for. That's true for just about any kind of beef. I may throw a little granulated garlic and/or onion in there for steaks sometimes.
Your basic ingredients for starting any "BBQ rub" are almost always going to be:SaltBlack PepperBrown Sugar(or any sugar really)Granulated Garlic & OnionChili PowderPaprikaEach persons preferences will be different of course, but you can take those ingredients and play around with them. And if you get tired of it, just circle back around to the basics. You can't go wrong with good ol' s&ampEmoticon. Emoticon

My favorite - and believe me, I can't cook worth a s*&t - but people love when I make ribs.First thing, go to Kroger and get some Montgomery Inn BBQ sauce. Won't need it until the end, but still. This is close to what I use:
Barbecue Rub
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup paprika
1 tablespoon black pepper
1 tablespoon salt
1 tablespoon chili powder
1 tablespoon garlic powder
1 tablespoon onion powder
1 teaspoon cayenne
After you get done with them, fire up the pit and pit some Montgomery Inn sauce on, get a little glaze / char going on them for just a couple of minutes, and that's all she wrote. 4951
