I would like to put my daughter in either soccer or gymnastics but don't want to spend too much money and was wondering if anyone has any suggestions?   4951

If she is going to be tall, I would put her in soccer..tall people usually aren't built for gymnastics. I say this bc when I was 6 my parents put me in swimming and gymnastics .. the gymnastic coach told me I was built for swimming/volleyball bc of my height. I did the balance beam and high bars and i felt awkward. Now if you are putting her in sports just for fun and not in hopes of a future scholarship.. I know that gymnastics was more expensive than swimming and swimming was pretty expensive. Soccer I am not quite sure of. 4951

The Y is probably the best place of a toddler-aged child for any of the competitive sports. 4951

Competitive gymnastics can be expensive. Anything competitive is pricey though. Maybe put her in both at the Y just to let her see what she likes best and then put her in Juergens or Rowland Ballard Gymnastics and spend the extra money. I started on a summer league swim team and then decided I loved it and joined a year round competitive swim team. I wasted my parents money in gymnastics bc I hated it. 4951

yes she is very tall for her age.  and she loves to dance and sing so i found a ballet class at the YMCA but she said she would rather do soccer or gymnastics.....so i just really want to find something that she can try out and not pay a lot of money.  she tried karate and liked it but didn't enjoy the yelling and super strictness.  my daughter is very shy and pretty well behaved and the karate teacher would tell all the other kids in the class that they should behave like her and it made her uncomfortable so she didn't want to attend anymore.  4951

I was also very shy, in gymnastics, and was very afraid to perform in front of everyone on the balance beam and my tallness made me feel even more awkward bc gymnastics is much harder on a tall person, from what my gym coach told me. This is just my opinion though..There are exceptions and she could be awesome despite her tallness or shyness Emoticon I didn't have a problem wearing a swim suit in front of hundreds of people, during swim meets Emoticon Just depends on how much she likes the sport..and since she is a toddler, she has plenty of time to experiment and find her passion 4951

@slee1976: JC Sports Houston in Atascocita is a sponsor of the site and I know they have sports programs for toddlers.
