Has anyone ever been diagnosed  with Shingles? Did you have pain moving your arm? The reason I asked is last week, my daughter started having severe arm pain from her shoulder down. We assumed she slept on it wrong or pulled a muscle. Then Monday, she had a rash on her arm that had raised blisters that look like poison ivy, and thinking that was what it was,I put cortisone and calamine on it.  Tuesday, it looked worse so I made an appt. with Texas Children's Pediatrics. Her normal doctor is out on maternity leave so DD was seen by someone else.  DH just came home with her, stating her diagnosis is contact dermatitis, but I think the rash looks like shingles. DD can't even make a fist, her hand is shaky,  and has been in pain for days now. Could she actually have shingles and the doctor missed it? I feel like I need to take her somewhere for a 2nd opinion.  So where would be the best place to take her? EDIT: Just in case it really is shingles, I don't want her to return to school and give chickenpox to someone elses kid. I know you guys aren't doctors, and either am I, but I'm hoping someone has experience with this who could help me. 4951

I'm going to  take her to a walk in clinic and see what they say. I hate her having arm pain for over a week Emoticon She can't even play with her Christmas gifts since it hurts to lift her arm. Here's a pic.

When my mom had shingles, it was around her waist where there were many nerve bundles. 4951

Be careful with a walk-in place like at CVS or Walgreens.  Those are PAs. Good for looking at an ear infection, etc., but they can and do miss dermatology matters and just might refer you out. If you think it is shingles, best to make sure the examiner is a doctor who can recognize them.  Try Kingwood Urgent Care on WLHP.  It is a regular doctor office visit on my insurance and not classified as an ER. 4951

Shingles will hurt or burn to the touch as it involves the nerves.  Several people I know have had it an it is painful to touch, painful to put clothing on top of.  I would recommend second opinion. I get contact dermatitis all the time due to dye allergies and allergies to soaps, etc and never did it have blisters like that.  4951

Nerve pain is different than muscle or joint pain. Nerve pain feels like a red hot poker or electrical shock- just a searing pain that doesn't stop. Muscle and joint pain is more like a dull or sharp pain when movement is initiated. Shingles attacke the nerve endings . I'd get a second opinion with a doc. Have no idea what the blisters are 4951

I went to Walgreens and picked up her two prescriptions written by the
TCP doctor. One was a lotion, the other was prednisone. I talked to
someone at Walgreens Walk-in clinic and showed her the rash, she told me
to go to an emergency clinic, or wait for the the next appointment,
available sometime after 3pm. Given the fact she gave me the deer in the
headlight look, I decided to decline. So, I took my DD to grab
something to eat, gave her the first pill, and if she doesn't begin to
feel better in the next day or two, I'll take her to that urgent care
clinic donnatella suggested.  She did receive a new Doctor Who
blanket for Christmas, and snuggled up in it before I got the chance to wash it. I
assumed if it were the cause, she'd have the rash all over, not just on
one arm, but who knows. Maybe that's what caused it. According to my mom, I never had chickenpox, so if I break out in two weeks I guess I was right about the shingles. Thanks everyone. 4951

@Grimmie: Likely a nurse practitioner or a PA. Good for ear infections and sniffles but nothing any more complicated.

@Grimmie:

What has touched that blanket prior to receipt could also be in question. Any pet allergies?

Do you use the dye free / scent free laundry products? I like the Arm and Hammer or All products.
