I let my weiners come in last night due to the fireworks. They were scared to death. They got to sleep in the laundry room. Come daylight they go back out. They stay outdoors. They have heated dog quarters and stay toasty warm. I have old king sized comforters and they like to burrow in them... EmoticonTHey just did not like the fireworks. Homer would not even go out to pee last nite. The fireworks started around 7 and keep going for quite a while....I just checked on them in the laundry room and they looked so comfy, I will give em a reprieve for a bit. 4951

Some idiot in Bear Branch set off a couple of fireworks at 6:15 this morning.😡

Between the 'hood sounding like a war zone last night and the rude awakening this morning, it's no wonder my 2-yr old was Mr. Grumpy Pants this morning (more so than usual, that is!).

Glad to hear your pups had a cozy night inside last night! 😃

New pup, Benji, was never phased by the commotion, thankfully!

See - he's perfect for some family! Look at how cute....!

After finally giving in and letting my two big rescues inside - and seeing the difference in their personalities - I finally understood why folks have inside dogs!  They love to be with their "pack" (us humans).  I'm still adjusting, however. 4951

One of my dogs spent the night vomiting in her crate. I have three big blankets in there, so lots of clean up. Ugh. 4951

@sh56: My parents never let our dogs inside the house.  After i married, my wife and I had a black lab/springer spaniel mix that was an inside dog.  My parents loved her.  After that, they got an inside dog themselves.  They are great companions and can improve your mood.

@Retired_Engineer:We had a little 18 pound guy inside for 10 years.  He always hung out inside with us, was never an outside dog.  Then the two 70 pounders came along and I balked at having them inside....  did much like Ray with cozy kennels in the garage.  When weather would get bad I would feel sorry for them and let them in....more and more frequently...and you can guess where that ended up.  They are so much happier, and aren't always wanting attention - happy just to be with us.  Aside from hair and other random nuisances, we like having them with us. 4951

I can't imagine my 50lbs dogter being an outside dog. Heck she follows me from room to room to even the bathroom a l l t h e t i m e. Girl wants constant love. I do have restrictions like she is not allowed on any of the furniture, she has 2 beds of her own, and I close all the bedroom doors when I'm not home. I was going to get a doggie door for her but my back yard backs up to a main street. I'm scared she would get bored and dig out and I'd find her dead in the middle of the street. Nope girl stays inside. 4951

It's been interesting reading about this topic and see that we all have had different experiences with dogs being inside and outside. I had a German shepherd for 10 years and she was both an inside and outside dog. Currently, I'm fostering a one year old bull terrier.  She is all white and hate to see her get all muddy with the rain that has been going on outside. Interestingly enough she was not bothered by fireworks last night. Anyway the point is that you all seem to be very good dog owners and that's what I'm looking for this sweet bull terrier. If any of you may be interested in adding a dog to your household, please feel free to reach me. I can provide any information you may need. Thanks and Happy New Year!

Why have a "pet" if it stays outside? That's not much of a companion. Unless they're working security for you, what's the point? 4951

My dogs love being outside. The rain doesn't bother either of them. I think they actually like it! But they don't always make good decisions if left outside for more than a few hours at a time. So they can't be outside if I'm gone. Or when it's cold. Neither of them like being outside if it's 60 or below. They sleep inside too. So they're inside/ outside dogs. They aren't allowed on any furniture or in the beds. Oh the humanity!! 4951

Both of our dogs have black fur.  They don't spend much time outside in the summer, but once it turns cool, they love to lay in the sun.  If we have to leave the house, we put them inside so nothing happens to them.  Besides, they are better than any alarm.  If anyone comes to the door, they bark like crazy! Our older dog lays and sleeps on the floor.  She just can't jump anymore.  The younger one sleeps on the bed with us and we put an old blanket on one of the couches for her to lay on during the day. 4951
