Food prices are high but it was said that it was because gas prices were high. Wtf, why are we not seeing food prices go down with gas being so low? Answer me this!

I wish they would go down. I spend more on groceries than my mortgage every month.

Bought milk over the weekend and noticed it was about sixty cents cheaper than a couple months ago (around 20% drop), which is about what I would expect with falling fuel prices.  It may go down more, but gas to transport is only part of the cost for milk.  4951

Once consumers are acclimated to paying higher prices, or paying the same for less quantity the price doesn't usually go back down.... any why would it if the corporations can get away with it. 4951

There is always a lag time when crude oil prices drop before refineries lower the cost of fuel, and a lag time for lower fuel prices to show up in grocery stores (and other places).  However,  they ALL jack up their prices as soon as the price of crude oil goes up! 4951

Diesel prices haven't dropped as significantly, yet. When they do, that should help. 4951

@Retired_Engineer: that's because they try to be out front of what it will cost to replace the goods on the shelves. anyone else remember what it was like in the 70s when canned goods would have a half dozen price stickers stacked on them as they were repriced to reflect higher costs? those were the days before barcodes

in those days, the grocery store stock clerks had either the paper price tags or the ink stamp pricers and they were kept busy repricing items sometimes nearly on a daily basis... 4951

I noticed that the organic produce has gone down in price significantly.  I was able to get the organic produce for less than the regular stuff at Kroger.  4951
