...to tell me how he would feel if his wife chose to NOT change her last name after getting married. You see, I've married for the last time, though it's certainly not my first rodeo. (I have a frequent flyer card....) My decision is based solely on the fact that it is a ROYAL pain in the **** to change your name. Credit card accounts, social security, driver's license, insurance, doctor, dentist, vet, bank....the list goes on and on.
My DH says he doesn't care at all, but he's like that to say it even if it hurts his feelings. I'll gladly go through the hassle if I knew it bothered him. So guys...what's your opinion? 4951

I didn't change mine either and told by husband before we ever thought about marriage that I'd never change my name again....same as you... It's a huge pita. I introduce myself using his last name always. It bothered him the first year, but I stuck to my conviction. He is over it until some one calls and asks for him using my last name. I told him, I know who I am married to but I like my name! Tell him to take yours Emoticon @love2run 4951

@cgm10sne1: Thanks! I do mention often that he should take my name...it would have a nice ring to it: 'Bob Bibb' He just grimaces and walks away.

Thanks...I agree, to a point. Sometimes it complicates things that our last names are different. Its a pain either way, I suppose. 4951

My married name was much better than maiden. Bragg sounds much better than Thompson and it's easier to write. 4951

@BooBear: but you have to constantly spell it for people, no?

Change name for him. It would bother me if my DW said she would keep her old name. 4951

I think a generation of men should take their wives last name just to see what a pain in the **** it is to change names and then if a divorce happens to change it back and all the unsueing paperwork on aliases. If they experienced it then just maybe the whole name changing fiasco bs would end. 4951

I can understand if there were children entering the picture. I changed mine my first marriage..but it took me five months to do this at my ex,s insistence. And it was a total pain changing it...and changing it back to my maiden. Never again. A lot of women are keeping their maiden names and some men are taking their wives names. I don't see why the heck it matters. Jmvho 4951

Can't speak from personal experience yet but I'd prefer to all have the same name. Wouldn't mind changing my last name to be honest, but my SO hates the side of her family she is named after so I don't think she'll want to keep her name. 4951

in some ways, this might be a difference between those who are outerdirected or innerdirected...if a person is outerdirected, the opinions of other people are a matter of concern..if they are innerdirected, the opinions of other people don't carry much weight 4951

@Love2Run:

I've been married since '01 and no name changes yet. I don't mind. We just never got around to it and it's never been a problem.
