Here is why,  yet another series of DDoS(Distributed Denial of Service) attacks. Had a bunch yesterday, now it seems it  is happening again today as well.Also affecting EA/Origin servers ,and probably a bunch of other stuff too.  Watch DDoS attacks all over the world in realtime.  map.ipviking.com 4951

Cool map
@Fallon @MTechniqueYeah it;s pretty interesting watching it.  ON the sides, you can see the target countries in a list and sometimes instead of a country,  it says the target is : MIL/GOV, sometimes that's the attacker as well.Fallon, the map is showing  when a Botnet( a group of hundreds or thousands of computers with malware installed on them) sends out communication requests (Hey Computer A, I am computer B, are you there? Can you see me?  Hello Computer B, Yes this is Computer A and I can see you just fine. Only done thousands of times all at the same time.)   In doing so it pretty makes the target computer useless, it is so busy trying to answer all those requests, legitimate work can't get done.  The lines you see going back and forth probably represent not just one computer but a few hundred per each line on the map.MTech, I agree, they are a bunch of bastards, but they do make a lot of games I like to play LOL. 4951

Blocking entire countries isn't a bad idea.  They may not be the original source of the attacks, but some tend to have a lot more pirated operating systems that can easily be used by bots.It doesn't cure the problem, but does help.China, Russian, India, and France.  Yes, France. 4951

@MTechnique: Is it the online requirement for some of their games (like the new sim city)?
At least they do a lot of work in Austin.   4951

Restrictive DRM is my primary issue with EA. IE constant online only yes.But also the company is just plain lousy to consumers. 4951

If my husband were suddenly unable to play Xbox, I'd get on my face to worship the hackers. 4951

@Haethur, same here.  We haven't had a minute for my boys to get on PS4, or their XBox.And Saturday's are always days for Destiny.

@Fallon:

Which really sucks because I can't sleep for sht & would really love to play either Destiny or Halo. I've got nothing to do & have already watched 2 movies, my FB & IG feeds are boring, & none of my besties or regulars are texting or snap chatting. Boring interwebz AND no gaming?? What did people do in the 70's for entertainment?! 4951

I wish it wouldn't work all the time.  I'm ready to take the one we mistakenly got for my kids and throw it in the trash can.  4951

@Murf, come up with a way to send an EMP to the hackers Dude you could be a gazzillonaire. All the PS4 owners would pay you to do this right now. lol

@Fallon: Heh, some online maroon tried to bribe the group with premium memberships (3000 of them) to his online storage website so they agreed to stop, but they started back up again yesterday.
What did people do in the 70's for entertainment?!

@Heathur: We did REAL gaming  Emoticon, 3 lives, no saves. and it wasn't called carpal tunnel back then, we called it Atari-itis.  Very uncomfortable after 3-4 hours of Space Invaders or Pitfall.
They got the 2 PS4's this Fall to get ready for an online Skyrim, they just know has to come out.

@Fallon: I dunno, they may have to go with Elder Scrolls Online.    Yet another reason PC is better than consoles, already a Skyrim online for PC's Emoticon
