I received an email saying that Kohl's will be open 24 hours between now and Christmas Eve at 6 pm. Have they done this in years past? Which other stores do this? I feel bad for the employees. That just seems a bit excessive to me. 4951

@Mahm: I remember they did it last year, but I think that was the first time.  I can't imagine they get enough midnight shoppers to support paying the employees.

I don't feel bad for the employees. They are getting paid & have Christmas off. I voluntarily worked the day after Thanksgiving & anytime anyone made a comment to me about getting the short end of the stick or it sucking that I have to work, I just replied that I was blessed to have a job. Especially one as great as mine. *****ing about stuff won't change anything, so the employees that don't like it can find a coworker that likes money who will cover their shift, suck it up, or deal with unemployment. 4951

I have worked many retail jobs that required working on holidays. I never really minded it. Pay was always good, employers took care of the ones working, and guests were usually very nice because they thought it sucked we were working.

There will be a lot of people working overnight on the 25th to prep stores for the 26th.... the same as Black Friday. 4951

....My primary concern, for both the employees of these retailers, staying open so late with extended hours, and around the clock, as well as for innocent consumers, is straight up safety.......It honestly seems to me like an unnecessary "open," per say, for thugs up to no good.......For those that decide to make a late-night shopping journey, PLEASE do NOT go alone, pack some drop-that-thug-where-they-stand heat, and please have a store associate escort or watch you get into your vehicle safely.... ...And keep your doors locked....   4951

Some people work noon-midnight, or midnight-noon. Not everyone has a 9-5 job and there are no weekends left between now and Christmas to shop. Takes all kinds to run the world.I worked at Starbucks for 3 years when I was in school, and yes, the Christmas shift is completely optional. It usually takes volunteering employees from 2 or 3 locations keeping just one store open on Christmas Day. Also remember, some people don't celebrate Christmas!!!! 4951

dang...calling spouse to let them know I am a man.

@RobinZander:
LMAO! She/he is going to be so disappointed! Or happy?? Or...hell, idk...

@BooBear I'm still not sure. We don't make a lot of sense, and we're girls most of the time.

@Stealth83 Well said. I would be willing to bet the employees are fine with it for the most part. This isn't 1980 anymore when everything is closed on Sundays and holidays. It's a sign of the times.
