I have a neighbor who likes checking on everything that goes on. I saw him screaming at some kids because they went in a neighbors driveway. I know these kids, they are very polite, good kids. Just playing and riding their bikes. Apparently he believes me to be wrong for telling him to talk to parents if he has an issue, not screaming and putting his hands in the face of a 10 year old. He also said that they rode through her yard. This is I did not see, as my son was at a different friends house. According to his personal policy, since I know these children, I should be responsible for buying a piece of grass or two if they damaged it, even though my child was not even in Kingwood at the time. Am I just confused, I don't understand how this would make sense to anyone. 4951

That's just craziness.  I love to see kids out playing and riding their bikes.  Seriously, unless they're just being little sh@ts how much damage can a bike do.  I know it's the heat, but I'm surprised how quiet our neighborhood is, don't hear kids often.  I think it's probably the heat for part of the year that keeps everyone in the AC.  4951

Sounds just like a recent post. The neighbors sold the house next door to a couple from New York with 3 YOUNG kids. OMGosh, let the screaming festival begin in January when they move in. Lord please give me patience so I don't scream at them to SHUT UP. 4951

Is this person over 60? The reason I ask is because it maybe generational. When I was a kid I would get yelled at by any of my neighbors if I was doing something I wasn't supposed to be doing. If I was brave enough to tell my parents someone yelled at me ,my punishment would be twice as bad from my parents because not only did I do wrong but I was witnessed doing wrong by the neighbors. Going into other peoples yards or dive ways without their permission is not acceptable behavior. They don't belong there. I would not yell but I would absolutely tell them they didn't belong in someone else's yard or drive without permission. 4951

Is this neighbors name Brian? We had one that lived caddy corner that used to do stuff like that. Dude knocked on my door one day to accuse my son of squirting mustard on his car. My son was in Tennessee visiting his uncle and had been for a week and had another week before he returned. He still accused him saying I was covering for him. Dipwad got the door slammed in his face with a few curse words floating through the door. Brian was a self proclaimed kid hater and he proved it every time he saw a kid. Why would someone that hates kids live in Kingwood? 4951

A neighbor of mine made the mistake of blaming my kids for something they didn't do. He took it upon himself to admonish my children without me being present. He learned the hard way that anyone with a problem with my children will come to me - the responsible adult - or face the wrath of a mad mama. I will admonish my children, after getting their side of the story, if I determine they were in the wrong. I guess I don't trust other people to treat my kids fairly. Too many crazies out there to trust everyone. 4951

Its all about respect. Homeowners have a right to their property. Neighbors have a responsibility to respect their neighbors even if they have different values.

One person may not mind bike riding in their yard. Good for them. That doesnt mean everyone has to believe what they do. As a society we need to respect differences and teach our kids to respect others.

Sounds like both parties could learn to respect each others differences and be a better example of showing respect in front of impressionable kids.

@Stealth83: Bingo!  I was taught if you are not playing with the neighborhood kids then you were to respect their property by not being on it.  It's simple.  Kids are not being taught that.  I have kids and have taught them this.  I see it all the time with some parents who let their kids roam the neighborhood and have witnessed them destroy neighbors property, whether it be harmless or not, boundaries should be set and a mutual respect of others and their property. And if more Parents were out watching their kids and parenting them rather than not, this would probably be a different outcome.

I would prefer a neighbor talk to me vs my child.

I also teach my kids to be respectful of others. (Stay off yards, unless invited onto. Play and have fun outside, but DO NOT scream. DO NOT play baseball, football or soccer in the street. (Can go to park/and or school for that) etc... 4951
