I'm at a point of doubting my faith and doubting prayers. How do you know your prayers are answered? How long do you wait? What if they are never answered? 4951

@mattem:

I think you have to have faith that things work out. God loves you and has a big picture view. We are his children. Think of your kids. They ask for things they want now. You as a parent sometimes have to say no. You know that the reward might be better and bigger later. You want them to trust that you know better. God knows better.

I might be totally off in my view of prayer.I consider it a form of meditation or even worship (if that's your thing).  I do not consider it equivalent to making a wish.  In other words, God isn't going to get me a nice boat no matter how much I pray for it.  4951

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
The courage to change the things I can,
And the wisdom to know the difference. 4951

There are some things you never get over.  But those scars give you character.  Battle wounds of life are like merit badges. 4951

I've not read the other responses....your post just captured my full attention.

I don't know exactly what you are going thru, but I do know the pain. I have no answer but I pray to God to ease your troubled heart and mind. You shall get through this tumultuous time and be better on the other side. This, I promise you my cyber friend. Hugs and love sent....prayers up and out. Embrace this crazy change to the best of ability. If my memory serves me you are going through a divorce....if not good!

For anyone reading and going through divorce go get the books Crazy Time. And "Cutting Loose "if your a female in an abusive relationship regardless of nature....a must read.! 4951

@mattem:
God answers prayers in His time, and in His way. Sometimes, we may never recognize when a prayer is answered, but you can be sure they are always heard and answered in the way that God knows is best for us. We can't rely on what we see with our earthly eyes, but need to stay focused on the eternal Kingdom. Through the fire, we are refined. Life isn't easy. Stay the course, and you WILL be blessed. Praying for you to have strength♡

The Bible says that " whatsoever you ask according to my will,( God's,) know that I hear you, and if you know that I hear you, know that you'll have what you've asked for."

IOW, you must have an idea of what God desires for you and then put pressure on God through your faith, and believe for that.

There's a scripture that says God desires that you prosper and be in health, even as your soul prospers. So, you have a promise from God-his will made known to you that he
wants you well. Pray that and receive it in thankfulness. Stop asking for the same thing over and over, and just RECEIVE it, in thankfulness.

I did a lot of studying this issue. So there's more. Lol. You can pm me if you wish.

Sometimes you need to rest in God's love, because he loves you beyond what you can imagine. Don't question that he wants peace for you. He does. And not a drop of it is based on your "performance" in life. 4951

The Bible tells us that He wants us to have any good thing that we ask for. Although, our God doesn't like to interfere all the time, and sometimes there is a greater good involved. Remember, we have the ability to have free choice. Every single thing that happens can have a ripple effect. So if we pray for something that would be good, it could have a ripple effect later on that would not lead to the greater good of bringing people to God. What have you been praying for? 4951

I agree. Pray for God's will to be done. It's HIS plan for you, not yours. This will be understood more with maturity and life experience. If you are doubting your faith and prayers, this is when you need to pull God closer.

No offense to those who believe in power of prayer but.....I'm in the camp of "if you want something to happen you better get it done yourself".  Sitting around praying for something or someone is not going to get you anywhere, unless the stars just happen to line up for you. 4951
