@Retired_Engineer: in many cases, it is cheaper to clearcut it and then plant trees rather than work around the native trees. and unless it is required, they often don't plant native trees back but rather use the cheapest trees they can to fulfill green requirements.
@ProblemAgain: Yeah, I realize that. That's why I said "that's business". It's usually far too difficult to lay out a construction plan around existing trees.... and then you don't know how old those original trees are. It's more profitable to clear-cut and then plant a few token trees wherever the plan allows. I understand the business side of it, but it still frustrates me to see large clear-cut plots of land. I've always loved wooded areas.
