I rented a 10 x 5 storage unit.  When placing a 5' item into the unit, it would not fit.  Upon further inspection, we noticed that the floor was stamped 9 x 4.  On Saturday, December 6, my husband spoke to the manager regarding the fact that our unit was NOT even CLOSE to 10 x 5, she was very rude - stating that our contract said "approximate."  When I spoke to her (which I recorded) - she was VERY RUDE.  Stating that we had already gotten December rent for free (not that we asked - that was their special) and she didn't know what we wanted but she wasn't going to give us anything else.  When I stated that all I wanted was a unit that was "approximately" 10 x 5 - not approximately 9 x 4, she said I would have to make an appointment to come back so each unit could be measured - and there would be an $18 transfer fee.  I agreed and left.On December 10, we received letter dated Monday, December 8 - a Notice to Vacate as of Jan 31.  This manager had no intention of allowing me to transfer units!I feel that Arrington Self Storage is fraudulent in their rental units and their customer service is HORRIBLE.  All we wanted was what we are PAYING FOR!! 4951

10x5 means... 10' deep by 5' wide, right? So, can you not turn the item around and fit it in that way (like, long ways?)? I'm not sure how your item didn't fit. Unless your item is over 5' tall, but even then, storage units are not less than 5' tall....

Disclaimer: I'm a writer - I'm lucky I can balance my checkbook, so maybe I'm not understanding something about the numbers here.... 4951

10 x 5 means that it is 10 ft wide, 5 ft deep - the item was 5 ft and wasn't even NEAR fitting in the unit. Of course if we turned it, it would have fit - but that really isn't the point.  The point is = the unit was not "Approximately" 10 x 5.  It was approximately 9 x 4.9 x 4 was even stamped on the floor! 4951

I'm sorry to say, the manager lady although rude isn't completely wrong.

If it was stamped 9x4 then it was exactly 9x4 but, since it's close to 10x5 their description isn't false if they use the word approximately

I would report this person to the better business bureau and start a complaint trail on this place. Let them know your friends will spread the word. Also do a review on Google as thousands of people will see this. 4951

Notice how those approximations always favor the seller, not the consumer? 4951

9 x 4 is NOT APPROXIMATELY 10 x 5.  only in the GRAND scheme of things is 36 square feet APPROXIMATELY 50.  That's 14 square feet short!  I know they don't price things by the square feet - but in reality it makes a HUGE difference in what can be stored.  What happened to CUSTOMER SERVICE? 4951

@shannaharris: Are you a lawyer? I deal with lawyers every day ... if you're not one, you should be!

So, how much are you paying for the "approximate" 10x5 unit? I can try to help you propose a fair price to pay for this 9x4 unit....

Again, I'm just a writer, though, so my numbers may be off. 4951

10x5 is 50 square feet...9x4 is 36 square feet...That's 28% smaller square footage than in the agreement...I would not call that "approximate". That's like saying a house is "approximately" 2,000 square feet when in reality it's 1,440 square feet...that's a big difference.Maybe if she gave you a 28% price break, it would be fair. 4951

@KingwoodDotCom:

Problem is (I'm betting). Someone went in with a measuring tape and took linear measurements and never thought of the square footage. Then they went to type out their ad and thought 10x5 looks better than 9x4. So they throw the word approximately to cover themselves and there you go! 4951
